Pakistan can produce 346,000 MW power: USAID
LAHORE: Ms Robyn McGuckin, Regional Coordinator and Programme Manager, South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy, (USAID) on Friday said Pakistan could produce 346,000 Mega Watt power through wind energy projects.
She said that industrial growth registered increase during the last few years and Pakistan is confronted with acute power shortage, which is pre-requisite for development, progress and prosperity. She said wind energy projects can be installed in the areas of Sindh, Balochistan and North Islamabad, which she added are most suitable sites. She said these projects could also be set up by Pakistan businessmen with US investors as enormous potential exists in Pakistan.
President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh, VPs Azhar Saeed Butt, Qamar Zaman Gill and former federation chiefs Iftikhar Ali Malik, Tariq Sayeed were also present on the occasion. Regarding the funding of the proposed projects, Ms Robyn said that Asian Development Bank has set aside an amount of $3.5 billion for energy sector. She said, We will provide free technical and business advisory services for wind and solar energy projects. She said every single acre of land could be used in Pakistan and US private sector can be persuaded for investment in energy sector of Pakistan, as there was vast scope. app
