Former Pak President general Pervez
Musharraf is known for making some
pretty unorthodox gestures. He was
the one who had walked up to Prime
Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during
the SAARC conference right after the
Agra summit fiasco and held out his
hand.

He has been out of power for four
years now, and has spent the greater
part of that time in Britain. But he
seems to have retained his penchant
for unusual moves. Musharrf on
Tuesday called for better ties between
Pakistan and Israel as a way to wean
Israel away from its pro-India.
Speaking to the Israeli daily Haaretz,
Musharraf said “Pakistan has to keep
demanding the resolution of the
Palestinian dispute… (but) Pakistan
also needs to keep readjusting its
diplomatic stand toward Israel based
on the mere fact that it exists and is
not going away,” he said.
“The issue of India is another
sensitivity in Pakistan – Israel has
always been pro-India and against
Pakistan ,” he said. The problem of
course is that the Pakistani public is
violently against Israel. A problem that
Musharraf acknowledged. “Yes. We
have been anti-Israel in Pakistan
because of Palestine, because the
Pakistani people are on the side of the
Palestinians and concerned for their
plight. Right from the beginning, from
when we got our independence in
1947 and Israel came into reality a
year later, we have been pro-
Palestine,” he said.
Musharraf pointed to his track record
of defying Pakistani public sentiment
to come closer to Israel. He had
shaken hands to the Israeli Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon at the UN, he
had spoken at the American Jewish
Congress, and he had sent his Foreign
Minister Khursheed Mahmood Kasauri
to meet Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan
Shalom.
One can’t be sure if Musharraf means
what he says, or that it is just
posturing before his return to Pakistan
between 25th and the 27thof January.

Musharraf has made many a daring
statement before, and his out of the
box solution have generated much
debate, but even for him befriending
Israel might be a bridge too far. For
Israel, to come closer to Pakistan at
the expense of India, it might be well
nigh impossible.

Pakistan should build better ties with Israel to drive out India: Musharraf | Northern Voices Online: NVO News Blog

like israel is ever going to build better ties with pakistan which claims to be savior of islam with it's nuclear missiles..sane and educated pakistanis might agree with him...but If musharraf continues this nonsense then he might as well get killed soon...

He should be worried about his fate in Pakistan first, what he did to Nawaz & Benazir when they landed in Pakistan is now going to happen to him but first he should go to Pakistan atleast rather than changing his date every few days.

Old news bro, discussed in detail about five days back.

People just blabur whateve, would Israel take the bait evean if Pakistan tries is a big question.

India has already responded and I completely agree with our Foreign Minister's statement

"I think it is between Israel and Pakistan to decide what kind of relationship they want to establish, as much as it is between Israel and India to decide what kind of relationship we want to establish", Foreign Minister S M Krishna said at a press conference answering a question on the issue.

"We will certainly not come in the way of Israel having its relationship with any other country because each relationship stand ultimately on the values on which we stand for," the Minister, who is on a two-day visit here to mark 20 years of the establishment of Indo-Israeli diplomatic ties.

However, Krishna said that India and Israel have a lot in common, being two democracies that are governed by rule of law and adult suffrage among many other things.

agreed with Mr Musharraf as he said Pakistanis are not againts Jews but are against the atrocities done by Israel just like we are against the indian terrorism in Kashmir, we cannot blindly follow others like india just to take benifits at the cost of inocent lifes. Relations can be good with Israel if they give rights to Pelestinians same for india as well.

The Fact is Most of the Pakistani politicians want the same…But they are afraid with Mullah Brigade of Pakistan… They will be killed like Salman Tashir if they say so.

Pakistan needs to understand that relationship with India is not a zero sum game for other countries. Tell me how much Israel has helped Jordon, egypt or any other friendly muslim countries ? That is simply wishful thinking. I guess he wants to focus on Very strong jewish lobbies in Washington.

LOL
you blindly follow US even after they killed 40000 pakistanis just to get some money - and you accuse India?

lol on your general knowledge.

by the way - the topic is not about India; sir.

keep talking like these and soon mush bhai will become shaheed mush bhai....

Musharraf is delusional. Israel will never side with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan over Hindu majority India.

Zionists hate Muslims, but they will like to use Pakistan for short-term against Iran because unlike India, Pakistan shares a border with Iran, but Pakistan should learn from past mistakes and not interfere in other countries wars.

Musharraf never thinks about long-term effects that's why we are in such a big mess now.

And now he is regretting that he said that and is giving explanations about that interview to Pakistani news channels... :disagree:
