Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will lay the foundation stone of a 2,117 megawatt civil nuclear power project on Tuesday which is being built with the assistance of China in the port city of Karachi, Geo News reported.

Sharif will formally inaugurate the work for the civil atomic power project being set up with the cooperation of China.

This will take a very long time to be completed.

If possible get a person like Mustafa Kamal to speed things up. This is a matter of survival, not politics. An energy independent Karachi would mean a change in fortune for the city and Pakistan.

Great step by PM Nawaz Sharif, Hope PM Nawaz will start more Mega Projects like this!!!

What good are so many posts that you have made in such a short time, when they are of such quality?

Read carefully, I said someone LIKE Mustafa Kamal. Not Mustafa Kamal himself. Why would he work at a lower level? He is in Dubai and working with Bahria now (reportedly). Karachi has the most talent in Pakistan. There can be a number of highly qualified project management professionals, who could handle this project.

BTW if you think that this project would somehow help our weapons program, then you are mistaken. We have enough nukes (100+). Do we seriously really need more? If so, what for?

What we need desperately is to develop and provide better governance and services.

Another Nuclear Power Plant in Karachi ? :hitwall:

Spend that money instead on building a couple of barrages in Sindh to deal with the water scarcity issue in addition to some power generation !

Use whatever that remains to make a capital injection in KESC for it to expand further !

He is working in Dubai because he has problems with MQM leadership these days and only in Dubai he can remain safe

this project is not karachi specific, nuclear plants are built on the coastline because ample amount of water supply which is used as coolant

If bridges and flyovers built by Mustafa Kamal are in a bad shape, then it is the later govts who are responsible for it. Not Mustafa Kamal. Everything is going to deteriorate if not properly taken care off.

Today PM laid the foundation stone of 2 x 1100 MW PWR nuclear power plant to be built at Karachi.
4 new NPP power plants will be built (k2, k3,k4 and k5) each having 1100 MW capacity with Chinese assistance.
These will be the biggest nuclear power plants of country and will be completed in 72 months.
