We need dedicated attack helos, like the WZ-10, to enter service ASAP. Converted Z-9s don't offer the same amount of armor/firepower as a dedicated platform.

impossible to tell from photos. many composites look very similar to metals.

Well I was just asking because the skin don't look like metal. Looks plastic-ish as opposed to the last pic of the transport heli.

Later variants of Z-9 are known to incorporate composites into the design. Perhaps the plastic-looking ones are the modern ones?
