President urges Kuwait to lift ban on Bangladeshi manpower

KUWAIT City, Oct 17, 2012 (BSS) - President Zillur Rahman today urged Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah to resume recruitment of more skilled and semi-skilled manpower from Bangladesh by lifting the existing ban.

"Bangladesh has a pool of surplus skilled and semi skilled workforce who can offer their skill to Kuwait, especially for its growing IT, engineering and management sectors," he said while holding bilateral talks with Amir of Kuwait on the sidelines of First Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in Kuwait.

The two-day Summit of ACD, the largest ever Asian forum, comprises 32 countries from east to west began here yesterday with a call for encompassing all Asian countries under an umbrella by enhancing cooperation in all sectors.

During the meeting, Bangladesh President invited the Kuwait Amir for visiting Bangladesh to attend the Independence and National Day celebration on March 26, 2013.

The Amir expressed his gratitude to the President for inviting him and said he will visit Bangladesh to attend the Independence Day celebration.

President Rahman urged the Amir of Kuwait to increase Kuwaiti investment in Bangladesh especially in the oil refinery sector.

Saying that Kuwait is the major source of Bangladesh to buy oil, the President requested the Kuwaiti Amir to extend the present three-month deferred payment period of purchasing oil.

President Rahman urged the Amir to import RMG products and pharmaceuticals from Bangladesh considering their world standard quality.

The President said Bangladesh is keen to strengthen and diversify bilateral cooperation with Kuwait, especially in the field of trade and economy, for mutual benefit.

President Rahman congratulated the Amir for hosting the first ever ACD Summit and thanked him for inviting Bangladesh delegation to it.

The Kuwait Amir thanked the President to attend the Summit on his invitation as well as expressed his satisfaction over the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Amir expressed his gratitude to Bangladesh for giving support to Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion here in 1990. He also appreciated the role of Bangladesh army contingent that has been working here since 1990.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni and Bangladesh Ambassador to Kuwait Syed Shahed Reza were present among others.
