A minister in the Pakistani province of Balochistan has been sacked over a "drunken brawl" at a Lahore theatre.

Police say they detained Jaffer George for unruly behaviour and disrupting a play on Saturday night.

Mr George denies the charges and is free on bail. Video footage appeared to show him climbing on the stage.

As a member of the tiny Christian minority he is free to drink alcohol, which is banned for Muslims. Drinking in public is illegal in Pakistan.

'Obstruction'

Mr Jaffar served as minister without portfolio in the Balochistan government after being elected to a reserved seat for religious minorities.

He was arrested on Saturday night, a police official in the Qilla Gujjar Singh distict of Lahore, Majir Bashir, told the BBC.

Officers detained him "for drinking alcohol and repeatedly obstructing a stage play at a theatre", according to a complaint lodged with the police by the theatre management.

Local news channel Express TV broadcast footage of the incident in which two men - apparently Mr George and a friend - are seen approaching the stage during the performance.

The men then climb onto the stage and engage a female performer in conversation.

The management complained that Mr George and his friend did this repeatedly, frustrating attempts to confine them to their seats and let the show continue, according to police.

Mr George was sacked by Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani on Sunday after he received a report from the Punjab government.

The former minister says he is being victimised by the Punjab government.

Good riddance.

In a 50 member Balochistan Assembly, 38 are Ministers, 2 are Spks/Dy Spks and 1 is the CM. What hell of a corrupt culture.

You know it pretty cool to be in Baluchistan Assembly. No matter which party you belong to, you always get some share.

Trash, just like the rest of our political leadership. They should all be put up against the wall and shot with "S%^T Balls".

I would recommend elephant $hit balls.
On a serious note, it seems that our govt. have some understanding with judiciary.. or perhaps Zardari is charging 10% for forgiveness!
i have never heard or seen so much corruption and violence of law...before.
Imagine... they are suppose to be the law makers.....
Its a shame to be represent by such law makers....who are tempring Pakistan's law to their personal advantage... and on TV advocate rule of law where in practice raping the same law openly.
Any how, relatively this is was a small crime as compare to giving protection to those who needed to be in jail since the expiry of NRO.

And than the very same people cry hoarse on TV that the rights of Baluchi people are being trampled. These very same people have kept Baluchistan backward and the biggest actor in the whole game was Mr. Bugti himself.

Millions of rupees through successive governments was paid to him for the last thirty five to forty years but the lot of the common Bugti remained the same!!!!:pakistan:
