How about spend few millions to develop dedicated institutions, Hire foreign consultants. Send student to US and Europe to seek higher level research degrees. Train and educate rest of the workforce locally.

It takes more than just millions and high amounts of dedicated time for a well educated and forward thinking government to educate the local workforce and funding institutions for state of the art research and development. Even private schools in Pakistan paid for by rich individuals provide rogue educational facilities compared to whatever the government would be able to bring about

They can't get passed the PPP vs MQM scenarios in parliament

They're still throwing chairs and books at each other when they're in positions of power in Pakistan.

The country is so underpaid that people seek forms of clerical education in madrassas just to get some food

Dumb approach. Even the Arabs have given up that approach. We have 220 million people. 300 million in the next 30 years.

We need to extract maximum value from everything.


Instead we should higher foreign consultants to develop and train our own SOE's. We need to buy companies to setup equipment here. By using their forums like Asian development bank & world bank they send their "economists" who provide developing countries loans against high interests for unfeasible projects. Those loans are backed by strategic assets such as ports, airports and power plants of the country. These "economists" then make fake predictions about how successful this whole project is going to be if the country just follows their plans. Stupid, unqualified, greedy and sold out politicians usually easily buy into this and then the country is stuck into a never ending loop of debt. Same thing has happened in Pakistan where we were suggested and allowed to invest in a useless project like metro which does not earn back anything, instead requires subsidy to run! We had a near miss with bankruptcy and insolvency because of investing in the wrong projects.

This is the hard truth of the matter. Either Pakistan finds ways to develop these resources on its own (which is highly unlikely) or it will have to make foreign investment worth it.

Pakistani's in particular are obsessed with corruption scandals....even if they don't understand the technical details. I have seen at this forum.....members turn into foaming at mouth monsters against power plant capacity payments when these things are pretty routine business in much of the world.

Media and politicians cater to the corruption scandal obsession in the Pakistani public....and any foreign investor will be wise to be wary of it....based on experiences at Reko Diq and the power sector, IMO.

The corruption scandal obsession in the Pakistani public has done more harm then good. It makes it very difficult to have faith in any contract signed by GOP.
