Vietnam to set up free trade area with Customs Union countries

Vietnam is due to sign an agreement shortly on setting up a free trade zone with the countries of the Customs Union, namely Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
The talks are due in early 2013, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told reporters following his talks with the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi earlier today.

Medvedev’s opposite number said for his part that the two sides had agreed to step up work on the implementation of strategic projects, specifically in the fields of oil production, nuclear power engineering and military technological cooperation.

Medvedev earlier said that starting work in a new cooperation format within the framework of the Customs Union is a very good idea.

Vietnam will thus be able to expand the market for its goods, while Russia will boost economic cooperation with Vietnam.
