Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are expected to announce a massive natural gas deal during their summit later this year, Indian media reports said Monday.
Russian and Indian officials are negotiating a $40 billion gas pipeline project from Russia to India, oil ministry officials told Indian daily Hindustan Times.

“Russia so far has directed majority of its oil and gas supplies to the West… however, the scenario may be quiet different in the coming years especially in the wake of its gas pipeline to China and the one now proposed till India,” an Indian government official said.

Burn in the Sanctions paradise EU!

Russia is massively diversifying its resources and trade dealings.I am sure if they can move further they can simply show a middle finger to EU and US.Ghosh they already doing that.
In coming years Russia will exports most of its energy in to Asia means they become invulnerable to NATO sanctions in near future.

We must ink this agreement .It will ensure our energy security.First a pipeline from Iran and by adding this we can ensure energy for a certain extent.

Excellent news.

International trade = Everyone wins

International sanctions = Everyone loses

These sanctions bring sprayed about by America (at seemingly half the world), they are disrupting the global economy and ensuring that everyone suffers. That is completely contrary to the ideals of International trade, where everyone benefits.

will this be a continuation of the pipeline to China?? if not, what is the route?

What's with all this premature cheer-leading? Pipeline? How? From where? Why stop reality from interfering with some cheer-leading eh?

India eyes $40-bn pipeline from Russia to import gas - Hindustan Times
2 routes being considered

Two routes are being considered for the gas pipeline project. One is from Russia’s southern border to India via the Himalayas and the second from Russia - Astrakhan - Khazakstan — Uzbekistan and then along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route to India (TAPI gas pipeline).

The one through the Himalayas, is probably through China.

The one through China is the safest bet for US. Since there is way to much instability in the ME currently, and this would be drawback.

This was discussed a month back in Brazil and will be declared at the year end, so why the news now?
Also, India does not share border with Russia. So pipeline will involve either China or Pakistan. So it may meet the fate of Iran-Pak-India pipeline. The best option would be via Iran, Oman under sea pipeline.

Be careful, India. West may sanction you.

anyway, the best route for you is China. It is not only just safety issue, but also because we can handle the pressure from West if neccessary.
But what bout the Uighur issue? If I am not wrong the pipleine for India wud be thru Xinjiang. Also, the way Uighurs have acted recently will only mean they mite target any economic entity passing thru their region.

Comparing to the violance in other region, Uyghur issue is almost non exsit. We are very good at handle this kind of issues and there are many pipelines from Russia and central asia already operating in Xingjiang now. So India's investment will decrease greatly by sharing our current facility.
