Russia to keep nuclear arms ready for action : Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that the country will keep its nuclear weapons and aerospace defense ready for action.


“We are not going to engage in an arms race, but no one should doubt the efficiency and reliability of our nuclear potential and our aerospace defense,” RIA Novosti quoted Putin as saying at a meeting on the country’s defense program on Thursday.

“Nuclear weapons remain the main guarantee of Russia’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity, it plays a key role in maintaining global and regional stability and balance,” Putin added.

The Russian president also lauded the country’s aerospace defenses and asked the military and weapons designers to keep the weaponry constantly ready and be on the vigil for potential enemy plans for development of offensive weapons.

“It must remain on constant alert, take account of potential aggressor’s plans for development of attack instruments, provide neat and rapid interaction with other branches of the Armed Forces,” Putin said.

He noted that Russia has set up a USD-600-billion fund to upgrade 85 percent of its strategic nuclear weapons arsenal and up to 70 percent of its defensive aerospace weapons by 2020.

Earlier in the month and in a speech to Russian ambassadors, serving across the world, Putin condemned the West for its interventionism and adoption of "missile-bomb democracy" in its approach to international disputes.

The Russian chief executive also urged the ambassadors to be on guard against aggressive attitude on the part of Moscow's Cold-War era enemies.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to prepare nukes, I'm not sure if it's true or not but can't you shoot a nuke ONLY if 50 countries accept the allowance? or if it's a huge war and to take out a superpower with less resources then that's understandable, but seriously preparing nukes not in war is pretty insane for me, just imagine the chaos that would unfold if someone declared war on Russia, it would be an obvious nuclear war.

so if russia has a small economy what is your turkey then??? Turkey has only a gdp of 774 billion dollars russia has clearly more than twice the amount with 1857 billion and italys economy is shrinking so there is potential that russia will maybe surpass them this year.

Also as I previously said russia according to the worldbank has a gdp of 3000 dollars in ppp almost as much as germany, turkey has only 1288. Russia also has higher growth rate than turkey probably even more than all of europe, this and imf says next year and russian gdp per capita is higher nominal or ppp terms.

Russia also has no debt (10%), 100 billion trade surplus, 5% unemployment and 500 billion dollars foreign reserves. The list goes on and on.

Its always funny how people compare russia directly with the us or china you should compare it with your country first to see if its powerful.
