Russia's military leadership has for the first time acknowledged a nuclear threat from Iran and North Korea.
“The threat is always there, so we closely monitor the nuclear program developments of many countries," Army General Nikolai Makarov, the chief of the General Staff, told RT television.
"The analysis that we conducted together with the Americans confirms that, yes, there is a probability that the threat exists. And we agreed that it is necessary to create a missile defense system,” Makarov said.
He added that in order to counter these threats, Russia is ready to work together with other countries.
“Let's solve this problem. Let us work together to get rid of the threats that may arise, not only for Europe but for Russia because we too are part of Europe,” the general said.

Thoughts?
Not so much about the Iranians and Koreans but more to this "approval" of a missile defense system.
Seems like a 180 degree turn from their previous position.

I have already posted here before that Iranians cannot trust Russians at all - They will eventually sell out Iran to the wolves for their own benefit.

Who wouldn't? Everyone is doing that to pretty much everyone else. It's called realpolitik.

What in your mind would their benefit be in this case?

IIRC the missile defence shield was in response to the NATO's plans to arm the former Soviet states with ballistic missiles hence it isn't a consequence of the Iranian or NK threat !

No.

The threat was a rogue regime launching a nuke or two at Europe or the US.
Russians feared that it would be deployed in such numbers around Europe that it would start to become a threat to the MAD doctrine-ie being able to intercept hundreds of missiles not just a few.

This was their stance on this, supported by the claim that no rogue regimes present a threat. Now this part looks to have changed. And im wondering why.

Iran didnt trust russia and china aswell.
now at the end of this shamsi year we will unveil our version of s-300.that must be a painful slap on their face.

The Russian Defense Ministry has previously held that there is no nuclear threat to Europe and Russia from Iran and North Korea, because they do not have the capacity to build nuclear weapons or deliver them.
“Many countries that claim not to possess nuclear weapons do in fact have them,” Makarov said.
“Certainly, if it gets into the hands of extremists, it represents a threat to international security,” Makarov said.
He added that in order to counter these threats, Russia is ready to work together with other countries.
“Let's solve this problem. Let us work together to get rid of the threats that may arise, not only for Europe but for Russia because we too are part of Europe,” the general said.
North Korea has conducted two underground nuclear weapon tests, in 2006 and 2009.
Earlier in April South Korean media reported that intelligence indicated North Korea was preparing a third in a row underground nuclear test. The information was based on satellite photographs of North Korean test site, where underground nuclear test had been previously conducted.
U.S. and other Western countries suspect Iran of developing nuclear weapons under the guise of peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying its nuclear program is aimed at meeting the country's electricity needs.

US is very good at destroying SAM's radar, S-300 can't be their threat if you can't protect your radar.
The Wild Weasels got their own updates in turn. 56 Wild Weasel F-105Fs were updated to an improved Wild Weasel configuration with the designation "F-105G". They carried improved magic boxes, including an AN/APR-35 RWR, an AN/APR-36 LWR, and an AN/ALR-31 RHAWS. After initial flights, they were also fitted with a distinctive built-in jamming system, the AN/ALQ-105, which was an AN/ALQ-101 countermeasures pod that had been split in half and faired into the sides of the belly. This was done so that the F-105G wouldn't have to use up a stores pylon to carry a jammer pod. Finally, they could carry the improved AGM-78B-1 STARM, which had a two-band radar seeker head, and then the AGM-78B-2 STARM with an "all-band" head.

The Wild Weasels were one of the great air adventure stories of the Vietnam War. Late in the conflict, an Air Force assessment team did a rigorous analysis of the effectiveness of USAF electronic warfare systems in the combat theater and gave the Weasels high marks. Ironically, the assessment concluded that Shrikes only hit a radar antenna about 5% of the time and that the rate of actually finding and destroying enemy SAM sites was low. The true value of the Weasels was in sheer intimidation: when the Weasels were around, SAM launch rates dropped by 90%, allowing strike packages to reach their targets without interference.[
