Security environment poses challenge for Pak Navy: Naval Chief

<div class='bbimg'></div>

KARACHI: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir said "Current security environment in the region has posed new challenge for Pakistan Navy. Notwithstanding, Pakistan government&#39;s unprecedented peace initiative with India, coupled with confidence measure, we cannot afford to become complacent and must maintain a high state of operational preparedness as only a credible deterrence can guarantee sustained peace."

He said this while addressing 84th Commissioning Parade of Pakistan Navy officers held at Pakistan Naval Academy here on Friday.

Admiral Tahir further said that our peacetime role of maritime policing, benign operations and diplomatic undertakings has increased manifold.

" We are the only regional navy which is a part of the Coalition Maritime Forces operating in the Arabian Sea against terrorism and maritime crimes", he added.

Construction of Agosta 90 B submarines with french collaboration and the recent deal of F-22 P Frigates of Transfer of Technology basis from China, would certainly enhance its shipbuilding capability and strengthen its offensive punch, he added.

One more thing that he must have added is that build up of Indian Navy, of course to get more funds and give public an eye for the current issue with our navy.

With the construction of Agosta 90B submarines and F-22p Frigates for the future. Pakistani Navy is not capable enough to deter with navy which is over leading Indian Ocean, and is said to be second or third beasty navy in Asia.

Its not just our work to make more funds for PN by telling people about our capablity versus IN, its there job too, which they obviously fail to do it in the media.

Look at how Saadat came infront of the media, when he needed funds for PAF, and guess what he got what he needed, though i dont blame him for it as he doesn&#39;t have much power.

PN curretnly has 3 Agosta 90B and gonna cquire 4 F-22.

What is the modernization plan apart from this?? How many more Agosta and what will be the time limit??

It took 11 years to the PN to induct 3 Agosta&#39;s.

but it included setting up the ToT, as well as the negociating

the real questions:
1. how long does did it take the dockyeard to make the third submarine?
2. how long was the gap between the construction of the second and third subs?

3 times the first question, and 2 times the second question, will give you an idea how long it would take to make 3 more subs

Not to forget here that the IN has already ordered 3 more modified Krivak-III (Talwar) Class frigates which are expected to deliver between 2010 to 2012.

The third Talwar class in earlier deliveries INS Tabar already carries BrahMose instead of Club missiles.

Thanks,

Miro

So your telling us the Indian Navy is better than the Chinese Navy, South Korean Navy, Russian Navy, Japanese Navy, Taiwan Navy? India would probraly be the 5th best navy in Asia and the dominant navy of the Indian Ocean but, India must be careful since last year alone the PN was expecting to get 4 F-22P, 8P3c orions, 1 Augosta 80B, 2 Perry classes,2 Jalat missile boat,1 Spruance class. If we keep this acuisition trend up we&#39;ll be a deadly navy by 2015.

Indian Navy launches its third largest landing ship
By Ajitha Menon, Kolkata:
The Eastern Command of the Indian navy today launched its third largest landing ship INS Airavat.

Maria Teresa Mehta, the wife of Vice Admiral Sureesh Mehta, Fleet Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Naval Command, launched the ship, which is the fifth in the LST(L) class of ships built by the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers.

The ship has the capability of carrying more than 500 troops, 12 main battle tanks, 10 army heavy trucks and other armament for performing its amphibious role.

The INS Airavat is designed to have a high endurance at sea for more than 45 days. She will be able to fully defend herself against any attack with her indigenous weaponry of WM 18 rocket launchers, CRN 91 naval guns, SAM and Chaff launchers and has staging facilities for MK 42C helicopters and the indigenously built Dhruv helicopters.

The 124.8 meters long and 17.5 meters wide INS Airavat is capable of achieving a speed of 15.8 knots. She has a deep displacement of 5600 tonnes. The ship will be capable of beaching for disembarkation of army vehicles and troops.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Rear Admiral T S Ganeshan, CMD GRSE, said NS Airavat has been named after the divine elephant of Lord Indra. He said substantial design changes have been incorporated in the ship to improve habitability, operational efficiency and safety at sea.

Vice Admiral Suresh Mehta said that the indigenous route taken by the Indian Navy for building war ships was a sure way of moving towards a self-reliant India.

i came across this news article , anyone know where this landing craft will be stationed and what happened to the old landing ship india was buying from the US in retaliation for the Spruance being given to Pakistan for free?

It was offered to India along with another soon to be decommisioned mine sweeper MHC 51 Osprey .But there wasnt much talk abt it later, nithing was reported in the media.

Not sure how i feel about this....

France to deploy aircraft carrier to support military operations in Afghanistan
(AP)

5 April 2006

KABUL, Afghanistan - France will deploy a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier off Pakistan next month so its war planes can support military operations in neighbouring Afghanistan ahead of an expected increase in rebel violence, a French general said on Wednesday.
About 20 reconnaissance and combat aircraft will operate from the Charles de Gaulle carrier and will fly back and forth through Pakistani airspace into Afghanistan, said Gen. Henri Bentegeat, the French Chief of Defense Staff.
The ship will be stationed in international waters near Pakistan from May 5-25, he said.
The war-planes will support both NATO troops, who are gradually expanding their area of operations into southern Afghanistan, as well as U.S.-led coalition forces, who have been hunting Taleban and Al Qaida remnants since 2001, Bentegeat told reporters in Kabul.
He said Paris decided to deploy the extra force at this time because of an expected increase in attacks by insurgents as warmer spring weather melts snow on high mountain passes the militants use.
Last year was the deadliest in Afghanistan since the Taleban were ousted in 2001 and U.S. officials have said they expect it to get even worse this year.
France has about 900 troops in Afghanistan, most of them are members of the NATO force while about 200 special forces operate in the country&#8217;s volatile south as part of the U.S.-led coalition.
The Charles de Gaulle has twice before deployed to the region to take part in activities in Afghanistan, once in 2002 and again in 2003.
