SIPRI 2014: Turkey's defense spending, 22.6 billion USD (2.2% of the GDP)

Exactly. We should rather stay away from the Arabic mess in the Middle East. We should focus on educational, social reforms in a secular path which will only go by overthrowing Erdogan and his government. However we don't have a good leader in the opposition parties yet.

No it is. It's the Swedish SIPRI we are talking about. Check the facts.

2.2%.......22,6 billion.

100%......1,027 trillion.

That was my point,Turkey's nominal GDP is 800 billion..."ish",not 1 trillion $.

Here it is...820 billion

Turkey GDP | 1960-2015 | Data | Chart | Calendar | Forecast | News

And the IMF has it at 813 for 2014 and 861 as a 2015 prediction

Btw, @Neptune i took a look on the latest IMF forecast ,for April, and it gets worse ,with the Turkish economy this year looking at 750billion $ but that's happenning to all of us in Europe.I suspect it's about the apreciation of the dollar and with national GDP's calculated in the national currency, everybody is slipping badly down again....by about 15-20%,despite growth.
