Since this relates to the British Indian Army from before partition of 1947 had very large - in fact disproportionate number ( over 40% ) of Pashtun and Punjabi's of today's Pakistan in it I include the following Victoria Cross holders. Both men are buried in Pakistan. One Pashtun and one Punjab Muslim.

Frontier, Punjab and Baloch Regiments figured heavily in the annals of the former British Indian Army. Frontier, Baloch and lot of the Punjab regiments were amalgamated into the Pakistan Army in 1947 when the British Indian Army was partitioned into forces for two new countries. They still form the backbone of the modern Pakistan Army.

The first South Asian to win the Victoria Cross was from Chakwal, Punjab, was in fact from present day Pakistan, Khudadad Khan who won VC in Hollebeke, Belgium against Germans in 1914. Ali Haider was Pashtun from Kohat, present day Pakistan who won VC against Germans in Italy in 1944.
