Sri Lanka hikes tax to curtail auto imports; to impact Indian companies

It is not a country specific, but more Indian bikes and tuk tuks in Sri Lanka then anyother...

so.. what's this hike got to do with the existing indian bikes & tuk tuks in SL's roads? if you think this hike is to discourage indian imports... then you are wrong. if you import japanese bike & chinese tuk tuk instead of Indian.. still the rate of duty is going to be the latest hiked one.

Prices of Indian made 1000 cc cars, three-wheelers & motorbikes increased….

Now reconditioned Japanese cars will be the same prices of Indian cars…..

These two statements are contradictory ! Why not think before open your mouth Plz..

You come here with a single minded mission to make Indian Jealous. You are not rational but have hefty prejudices against India.

Come on .. SL is a great country , I have much respect to you but before coming to this forum thanks to fools like you.

As someone already pointed out, we produce more than a million cars. A few thousand less won't even make a dent on the calculations of balance sheets.

right

we are 7th largest automobile producer in world

Why doesn't SL ban entry cars completely. You have quality chinese cars that are much cheaper, and also korean and Japanese
are there too. In BD these rag tag Indian cars are not even comparable to 1990 model corolla and here indians are talking
about quality.

If Indian cars are not good they will not be bought by the customers, why are you getting your panties into a twist? Or are you saying SL and BD customers need directions from the likes of you :lol::lol:

The tax rate hike is justifiable if SL have a very good car industry than can serve the local population, but I don't think they have one.

Vehicle industry in Sri Lanka is different from the vehicle industry in India

In here government provides permits to state workers and some selected individuals, permits are country specific

This will affect more Indian brands then others….

India continues to be the number one supplier of vehicles and parts to Sri Lanka despite loss of market share in 2011 to 45% in terms of value compared to 51% in 2010.

Japan has gained market in 2011 accounting for 36% of the market compared to 33% in 2010.

Both.... new & used cars

no.. you are wrong. Permit is only for used cars.. & it's not country specific either.

There are certain restrictions imposed on used car imports in Sri Lanka with a view to avoid undesirable imports in to the country causing bad impacts to public, Environment, Economy and Security of the country. The controller of Import and Export issues a permit to people who are eligible to import based on above criteria.

It makes sense with their descicion....How can India expect Sri Lanka to cooperate and friendly when Indian foreign policy is not friendlier to him???....If China can provide cheap products then i was really wondering why do you need any product from India or any other country...
