US Defense Secretary Panetta threatens ground intervention into Pakistan

It's too late, US is defeated in Afghanistan, it should just concentrate on how it's going to manage it's tail between it's legs for the long run home back to Texas.

Shows the level of frustration the US is in.

Hope they can take out their frustration in a right way and not in a way as US soldiers do by killing innocent civilians by going on a rampage.

Panetta instead of threatening and opening his mouth unnecessarily should concentrate on how to add more troops to a country where they have just 100K troops, while it needs 3 times more troops. Instead of doing drone strikes and taking out 4-10 guys, should concentrate on how to keep a track of the border points from where infiltration takes place, monitor them and when militants are crossing the border, should do the drone strikes so that militants have a fear while crossing the border and that way less militants will cross over and things may start looking good in Afghanistan. He should make sure that no strikes on civilians happen in Afghanistan so that people don't hate them more and more. He should look towards his forces and their composition and capability in Afghanistan instead of trying to find a scape goat for his and his country's failure in Afghanistan.

If US can send 400K troops to capture oil in the name of WOT / WMDs, which off course were a lie, then the same US can contribute 300K troops to control the country from where supposedly the 9/11 emerged and killed thousands of Americans.

Plus, i wonder if he and his troops can't control Afghanistan or just one province fully, how is he expecting his forces to control the Pak tribal area or just NWA. First he should concentrate on Afghanistan, show some concrete results and then he should open his mouth and give idiotic statements.

Hasn't this Panneta chap been very careless with his tongue in the recent past?

Hasn't this Panneta chap been very careless with his tongue in the recent past?

There's always a think tank involved and Panneta's statements carry weightage otherwise he wouldn't be in the front making those statements. His statements are from the brief that comes from the top, and it would be foolish on anybody's part to take his statements too lightly.
I read someone say that the US pressure is on the present Government to open supply routes because the present Government in Pk is pliable and the future Government would not be, the US pretty well knows that its not the Government that controls foreign policy in Pakistan, so it wouldn't matter which ever government comes to the center.
His statements reciprocates the sentiments of the US and were not issued on his personal behalf, contrary to that the statements issued by the Ex US consular to Pakistan was of a personal nature and that's the reason he was relieved off his position.

US is not a barking dog, It is a biting dog, I heard some one boasting " any drone which enters into pakistani Air Space will be shot down"

Quote for the Day: Barking Dogs Never Bite.

I also do hope you have heard the Barking up the wrong tree quote, something which is what the US is doing nowadays.

And hey US tried to bite in Korea, Vietnam also, but it turned out it was a US which got bitten.

And guys, for all of you, keep the dogs or things like that out of discussion, just concentrate on the topic.

You do remember what happened to vietnam and korea in the process don't you ?

No matter who wins the battle, the battle ground always bears the worst of it.. Happened to Europe, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and now Pakistan...

It doesn't matter what happened to Korea or Vietnam, it was the humiliation which matters. And US was the one which got humiliated and to this day they can feel that humiliation and the world knows them to have been humiliated by someone which was no match to the mighty US, but still got humiliated.

Anyway, as said try to keep the discussion on the topic.

But sir, as a Pakistani, are you more bothered about what happens to Pakistan or about whether USA is humiliated or not?

Blocking the NATO supply is the brave decision. However NATO wont attack Pakistan reasons are several for eg:

1. We are 7th largest force.
2. We have Excellent reserves compared to Arab countries including Saudi and iran can last 1.5 months plus the production in industry will be continuing
3. Like the Iraq we won't ground our planes due to less weapons ammunition. Almost IRAQ airforce was grounded due to less ammunition.
4. We have Modern tanks in large numbers now (alkhalid 540 , alkhalid 1 in some numbers production has started) no proof but fact .
5. Our artillery systems are in large numbers.
6. Excellent helicopter fleet for example ( mi-17 and puma , Cobra's with Night vision)
7. Nuclear power.
8. Cruise missile technology to destroy ships and surface targets.
9. SSG and SSW , Marines for special ops.
10. UAV survelliance.
11. C4i Battle management security and systems.
12. reasonable navy. (according to naval chief we have built large arsenal of ASM to counter the gap)
13. induction of modern tech fighters.
14. More than 5000 missiles produce for MANPADS.

Offensive force has to be greater than the defenders force in numbers.
panetta threat can stick to his Arse :)

I know one thing, if US can't take things in hand in Afghanistan after all this years, they can't handle NW.

Simple as that. This is what i can think as a Pakistani by looking at the discussion at hand.

So besides this "humiliation" how was the public life or anything in the US affected ? Yours is a very interesting comment.

Fair enough.. But wouldnt prevention of a skirmish better than a battle that USA will lose (which will devastate what is left of FATA, NW and Balochsitan) ?
