US seeks 860 Million$ for Pakistan Military support against Terrorism

We couldn't ask for more, if Congress blocks this too it will be a big day for Pakistan. We want bare minimum relationship with the US.

You can never have "bare minimum" relationship with the US. You are either with them, or against them.

All depends on you, whether you want to swallow the blue pill or the red one.

With the blue pill, you get the chance to fix your country, engage in trade with other countries like the EU, and the Americas (both) to lift the living standard of your compatriots, and countries like India can't do anything to you.

With the red pill, your reach is reduced between Morocco and Indonesia and you become a shuttlec0ck between your sect driven Ummah friends; but hey, you do get free oil, and a lot of free Talib ilms too to help "educate" your next generation.

Remember, India too didn't want to do anything with any power (remember NAM?), and just for that Indians had to go through a lot of hardships and uncertainties. Not too long ago, in 1991, India was on the brink of bankruptcy and had to mortgage its gold, and that was when India opened its economy. India managed to survive and progress through all that not because Indians are some smart of some special kind - they are the same people as anyone in this world, but because India was always much more resourceful and powerful than its enemy country Pakistan, and then, there was Soviet Union too... but all that is changed now. Now your enemy country - India, is even more powerful than ever before, and the Chinese too are more interested in money that India can offer, than anything else that you can bring on the table.

Unless you go for a fine balance in a relationship, you are bound to be used like an instrument only to be discarded when the objectives are achieved.

P.S. If Pakistan distances itself from the US, it will be much more difficult for other Pakistanis to travel to Australia, or anywhere in the West... you want that to happen, don't you? ;)

So sly

U.S should cut it's military and economic aid to ALL countries and that includes Israel.

we are one of the most hated countries in the world and throwing money at the problem isn't working.

Wouldn't work. US and Israel are probably the only two developed nations who wants and like their military leaders to be their "tough" political leaders and vice versa. Right from George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt to John McCain. It is a part and parcel of who you are. In Israel's case, it is very justified but in USs' case you decide.

Hawks are not your problem, "Chicken hawks" are. Just my two cents.

In the spirit of this post,;)

Fantastic post .
US give you few billions dollars and it caused the life thousands of Pakistanis .If they gives another million then something is already going on their secret table fro future Pakistan.
Never trust the US .
Advice your Leadership, We have learnt our lessons. Its India's turn to serve the interests of US because Pakistan have long abandoned US interests. Every purposal by US is now carefully examined by Pakistan's Foreign affair Establishment.

we are one of the most hated countries in the world and throwing money at the problem isn't working.
US pays for the services it gets from Pakistan. So Its actually our money.
Egypt is being paid for their co-operation with Israel.
Israel is being aided to keep her on the top of Strategic power Graphs of the Middle East.
US is being hated because of the Mess it has created by Multiple Invasions, destroying stable countries on the name of democracy.

Only one condition , Pakistan has to support coalition of 34 under Saudi.

wonder when we will get rid of "amreeki imdad"

the day 'Pakistani Kapas' will be cured from 'Amriki sundi' .... otherwise we have to 'import pesticides' to have a 'reasonably' good harvest

Israel loves you guys, why on earth would you cut ties with them?

As for Pakistan, well, Pakistan helped the US establish a relationship with China in the 50's, helped the CIA get the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan, advertised the F16 as a prime fighter and also helped during the war on terror (mostly).

Yes there have been misunderstandings like when the US opened fire on Pakistani troops, or when Osama was found in Pakistan, but overall Pakistan has proved to be a good ally of the US historically, it is just now that things are getting a bit more tense. Both countries should maintain a healthy relationship.

Better option would GM cotton.

Better option would GM cotton.

i think you didn't get it right .... ;)

plz let me explain it further with a quote

'Kill Amriki sundi'

PTV stopped airing the ad that asked the farmers to kill amriki sundi (American bug) in their fields. A lethal pest attacking the cotton crop was named American bug long time ago because it was imported into Pakistan with new American cotton seeds. It was responsible for destroying the crops in Pakistan. Effective pesticide were finally developed to kill the pest (its just a myth no permanent solution to this problem till 'now'). The PTV was advised by 'a high office' to stop the ad as it 'suggested' dangerous action.

......... :lol::lol::lol:

Well Pakistan and USA are against a common foe which is obviously fanatic elements , who don't even mind attacking school children and schools and women and elderly etc

The cooperation is welcomed sight

It would have been even more beneficial had we received ample Helicopters used / Gunships for operations in troubled areas

a) Chinooks
b) APC
c) F16 V

Go along way to improve Pakistani border control specially areas where rouge elements operate

Pakistan really needs a front line (Attack unit/ division) to take initiative to attack the pain point rather then be a retaliatory force

Taliban desires a rift between the US and Pakistan because it understands that it cannot flourish in the Af-Pak region if the latter two are against it.

After years of investment, bloodshed and military operations from the US and Pakistan in the Af-Pak region, is it wise for the two nations to distance from each other and grant the common foe sufficient room to recover?

Disagreements aside, Pakistani and American people should work with each other for the greater good of both.

For my fellow brethren, Anti-Americanism isn't the way forward. Open your minds.

Decent ties (someone above said) are a far fetched dream now. We are in a mess that is not going to go away in next decade. US knows how we served them in Soviet-Afghan War they want us to do the same against their new foes.
The only way US exploitation can be reduced if not eliminated is to work with India in decreasing the hostilities. The lesser hostilities and better chances of survival for us at least.

WASHINGTON: The Obama administration is seeking $859.8 million for Pakistan in its budget proposals for fiscal 2016-17.

The proposed amount reflects a gradual decrease in US financial assistance to Pakistan.

In 2015-16, the administration sought $917 million while in 2014-15 it sought one billion dollars, which also was a 0.2 per cent decrease from 2013-14.

Justifying the money it sought for the next fiscal year, which begins on Oct 1, the administration informed the Congress on Tuesday afternoon that Pakistan “lies at the heart of the US counter-terrorism strategy, the peace process in Afghanistan, nuclear non-proliferation efforts, and economic integration in South and Central Asia”.

The administration argued that the funds it was seeking for Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) in Pakistan “will support temporary positions critical to US activities”.

The proposed funding will help sustain cooperative relationships with Pakistan and will help “disrupt, dismantle and defeat violent extremist groups”, said a document the US State Department sent to Congress.

“The requested funding will also support the country’s counter-insurgency missions, and bolster stability, energy access, economic growth, and social reform.”

The proposed assistance includes $265 million from the Foreign Military Funding (FMF).

“Given the ongoing transition in Afghanistan and continued terrorist attacks against civilian and military targets throughout Pakistan, FMF is essential to Pakistan’s efforts to increase stability in its western border region and ensure overall stability within its own borders,” the State Department said.

“The FMF OCO request for Pakistan in FY 2017 will enhance the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, Air Force, and Navy’s ability to conduct counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations against militants throughout its borders, especially in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”

The assistance will also “improve Pakistan’s ability to deter threats emanating from those areas, and encourage continued US-Pakistan military-to-military engagement,” the document added.

There is a separate request for increased funding for polio programmes in Pakistan, which were previously requested and funded under the Economic Support Fund account.

The administration informed the lawmakers that $400 million of economic support (ESF) and OCO funding would support US strategic objectives in the region, including combating terrorism and violent extremism and increasing security, growth and stability within Pakistan and the broader region.

The document sent to Congress also emphasised the need to continue supporting Pakistan’s efforts to address “its debilitating energy crisis, which remains the highest civilian assistance priority for both the US and Pakistan governments”.
