The management at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is reportedly apprehensive about having Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as one of its key speakers.
According to NDTV, the management might ask for the Gujarat chief minister, who was approached by students who organised the forum, to be removed from the speakers list.
As of now, the forums website lists Mr Modi as one of the speakers.
Modi is to deliver a keynote address for the Wharton India Economic Forum (WIEF) at The Penn Museum in Philadelphia. Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia too will speak at the event, says the Wharton India website.
Modi, who has been denied a visa by the US because of allegations against him over the 2002 Gujarat riots, will speak via videoconferencing.
A group of US powerful lawmakers had earlier, in a public appeal to the Obama administration, asked it not to change the good policy of denying visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi under any circumstances in view of serious allegations of crime against humanity against him.
Bureaucrat-turned-politician KJ Alphons, who tried to convince US lawmakers to revoke visa restrictions on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, failed to receive any firm commitment the issue.
But then, a video conference should not be a tough job for Modi since he has already wooed his supported through his hi-tech 3D video speeches, ahead of the Gujarat elections.
