What is your idea about the possibility of secularism in Iran?

As far as I know, maybe with the exception of Turkey and Indonesia, there is no Muslim dominant state that is secular. From what little I know about Islam, there is nothing secular in its teachings. Hence I believe that Iran can only become truly secular once the majority of its people move away from Islam. Otherwise there are better chances of it being a functioning democracy rather than a secular state.

The majority of Iranian are Muslim but a small considerable ratio of them are extremist. ;) But I am sure if secularism translated as anti-religion the chance of change is faint.

Only Islam equates being secular as being anti religion. This is a common trend seen in our part of the world (subcontinent) as well.

Being secular is about tolerance and mutual respect.

Religion is a private matter.

Secular democracies are the way to go. You could argue they actually enhance religions. They make religion less politicised and opens debate up.

This is how Christianity and Judaism modernised and moved with the times.

It would be the best thing for Iran.

Iran is trying to be a regional power by force. The leaders don't understand that Iran would automatically become a regional power through democracy, because coupled with their resource wealth, the rest of the world would pour in to Iran to do business. Iran would also benefit from tourism and being invited to all sorts of global forums.

Forcing people to live by the dogma of religion has never resulted in anything positive. As long as it does not hurt the nation, people should live their lives as they please. NASA are planning missions to Mars, meanwhile in sharia-countries the police arrests girls because their hejab is not proper... lol

and meanwhile U.S schools has converted to bloodbath, teachers have to carry weapons, statistics of violence and rape is highest, even in their army, and more importantly they are killing women and children in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and their kid killer Israel does the same thing in Palestine cause in their secular view it's completely fine.
by the way Iranian people have chosen their Constitution and political system, Islamic republic in free election. so nobody has forced them.

Ignoring your other rubbish, there is nothing free about elections in which one man decides who runs - oh, and bans women from running in the elections for the presidency.

This isn't a democracy, it's a cruel joke is what it is.

You want to test your democracy? get a soap box, stand on a street in Tehran and tell people you don't like the government or want Khomeini out.

Next time we'll see you, is hanging by your neck from a crane.

you do the same in London.stand on a street and tell people dont want kingdom or insult the queen.

btw.there is no rule indicating women can not run in the election for the presidenty.that was just a statement from a guy in Qom.

you first search "mass arrest in U.K" and then come here and talk about democracy.

1-2 incidents does not constitute a bloodbath and that is most likely due to retarded gun laws

The US foreign policy is largely based on lobbying and opportunism, just like most other countries.

No enlightened person wants to live their life in the 21st century as if it was the year 6-700. Enforcing gender segregation, forced hejab, ...., only creates animosity towards religion. If people want to live like that by themselves, sure, they can go ahead. If they don't like to, who are you to tell them that they should?

We're allowed to do this. We even have special areas set aside called "speaker's corner" where people can get up and vent.

In Israel we can do the same.

You do not have a democracy.

Such irony !!!

Foreign people talking about this & that about Iran but Iranian people don't give a single sh!!!t about them ...
