What should Pakistan do to increase its economy and well-being

The best economic policy doesn't just focus on Economics. There's Political, Educational and Social factors involved.

I agree with some members on this thread that some sort of Peace Building Initiatives have to be carried out with India. So that the Indian lobby in foreign nations stops with some of their Anti-Pakistan ideology.

An investor from America or UK isn't going to put alot of money into Pakistan if there is no political security. If he/ she can't be assured that his/her investment is safe.

It would be best for Pakistan to carry out "Peace at home, Peace Abroad" type of policy as far as Foreign Policy is concerned.

Which will allow for a decrease in defense spending, somewhat. Hopefully that money can be used to fund education. HEC sends $300 to students studying abroad in Istanbul, if they can carry out that same type of scholarship for knowledge hungry students in Pakistan it would help alot more. Create a more competitive education environment and set the universities and schools straight. Teachers have to be better paid so that they are more motivated to teach better and help some of the low performing students after school for free. (Standard in America, High School Teachers come at 6.30 and leave at 3.30, even though school starts at 7.15 to 2.15.)

Social change has to overcome Pakistanis as they have to be willing to start being more Nationalist, thinking is this best for the nation and not just for themselves. Motivation is the key factor here. Pakistanis have to start thinking as a collective group not as individuals.

We need to increase our education budget. Thats the first thing for growth. Perhaps this should be moved to economy and development

Absolutely agree. At this moment, we are unfortunately led my very corrupt and incompetent leaders. Pakistan has all the ingredients to economically take off very quickly. I agree there is a convergence of policies needed to do that. Internal stability reflects in the external outlook. Right now we have a political stability that is delivering nothing. Its because all the crooks and killers have made an alliance and their interests align perfectly to keep a certain truce among them.
Our two longest borders have been most uncertain for the past three decades. How about that for a genius of a security policy? Pakistan can only prevail if it has peace on its borders and within.

To answer the title of the thread:Stop being paranoid about India, take power way from Army and focus on economic growth.

I think Pakistan should totally and soully concentrate on its education system to make it like an ISLAMIC Education system where our children will learn ISLAM as well the education of this world for skills. More over instead of 1973 or LFO we should see SHARIAH as our law and every court of Pakistan should be a SHARIAH court this is not only good for Muslims but is as good for the Non Muslims too.

nice dude it would be an amazing development, definitely go ahead with it

The fist and foremost thing is to solve energy crisis. No modern economy can generate wealth without energy. This energy starvation is the biggest threat to our economy and it is hurting bad.

WE have to solve the energy availability issue. That is the most important thing.

Establish rule of law and economy would increase automatically.

would like to add stop wearing western garments.. start wearing arabic style long gowns and stop drinking satanic drinks like coca cola and rum. eat only halal and stop educatin for women. women place is kitchen. beat women with stick only 2 times a week. women cant go out without mehram. marry 4 times and kids are allahs gift n get as many as possible.

The country reeling with uncontrolled population crisis is India..not Pakistan..look in your own collar first.
And yes kids are Allah's gift..many sons and lot of guns..we will need them at the eastern border.

What Pakistan can do to increase its economy and well being:

Well, for starters, it can:

1). Get rid of corruption because corruption bleeds Pakistan of a good portion of its wealth.

2). Improve law and order situation so that it would become safe to do business as well as expand businesses and attract foreign investment.

3). Eradicate poverty through launching large scale public project schemes that would benefit the common man.

4). Create jobs for the common man by having the Government encourage the wealthy Pakistanis to expand their businesses and create more businesses/jobs in the process.

5). Encourage businessmen from friendly and allied countries to invest in Pakistan and open businesses here.

6). Government would provide all the necessary tools and resources to individuals who are planning on opening a business or plan on farming.

7). Having the government and local private sectors invest in education in order to increase the output of skilled and educated work force by creating more schools, colleges, and universities, upgrading current ones, and providing state of the art facilities in these universities.

8). Create Youth programs to keep the youth physically active and conscious of their environment, nature, and the well being of their country/countrymen, so that this way they will also be kept away from drugs, guns, and gangs.

These are just a few ways to improve our economy, and most importantly with a nationalist leadership that only looks after Pakistan's national interest only then can we achieve the above. The major obstacle in our path is the so called "democracy", it is a failed concept and only allows the corrupt to take power in Pakistan.

Why is it that only democratic institutions get easily infiltrated by corrupt people?

All of this needs peace and tranquility and protection first. You cant expect a business man to come and invest when altaf bhai mafia is roaming free with kidnapping for ransom and extortion from business men.

Also removing zardari will be helpful because he is an international icon of corruption.
