WASHINGTON — The White House is apologizing for the burning of Muslim holy books in a pile of garbage at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan.

Press secretary Jay Carney says it’s a “deeply unfortunate incident” and doesn’t reflect the respect the U.S. military has for the religious practices of the Afghan people.

Carney echoed military officials Tuesday in saying that the Quran burning at Bagram Air Field happened unintentionally, and that an investigation was being undertaken to understand why it did and ensure it didn’t happen again.

A Western military official said the Qurans were removed from a library at a nearby detention center because they contained extremist messages. Carney didn’t address those specifics, referring questions to defense officials.

He said the administration was following the matter closely.

Is US very smart to clean the mess very rapidly? or is it the fear of rise of Afghans?

If the Afghan People have Trust in the Afghan Government, Then Afghan Nationalism Triumphs!

It's not about nationalism, it's about Islam and Afghans have always defended Islam and will defend it forever.

Do you support the way in which your country men are defending Islam? They find some papers of Quran and do a violent protest. How do you know they did it on purpose to insult Islam?

We all interpretate sometimes religion differently. Sometimes we misunderstand each others beliefs. However one thing that is bang out of order is the disrespect of each others religious beliefs - be it Islamic Judaism or Hinduism. There is a line - when you start burning and disrespecting others beliefs then thats blatantly wrong. You are as good as an extremist and playing into their hands.
I have the utmost respect for others beliefs - and i expect people to respect my beliefs.

The burning of holy Quran was 100 times more violent than these protests, and for the love of god would you still believe this to be an incident where they burnt 300 of the books in front of civilians?
