Featured Would having Rafale on Feb 27, 2019 made any difference?

Much of hype as such, has a background. The background having political & economical interests of some individual or a party involved in the deal. Modi used Rafale to his best opportunity from every angle. As far as the observations goes; the scam is well known and Ambani got the most perks then who knows, which one of BJP guy had its pockets full as well. Secondly, after operation swift retort, Modi again used the Rafale card in a manner to verify the necessity and divert allegations in mix of national security. While that issue was not totally gone, China made a move in Laddakh and every detail is in public domain.

Here, since the scam, operation swift retort and now Laddakh; Modi needed a moral booster for public with a medium to spread and that is no one but Media to do the job. All the hype, continuous projection like Rafale is end of the world etc have more to do with Modi's political career and saving certain skins involved in this deal alone. Once the public is made scared with their security; you can sell them whatever you want even if you rob them. Exactly, happening.

Technically & from professional point of view; no doubt that Rafale is a capable platform all along its weapon package but then again; no force ever hype an induction as such or goes into full media promotions. However, it may relate to the situation where not once but more than twice, Indian Military is being used as a political office to make sure that Modi wins the election. Public praises the military and treat them the first guard line and Modi wasn't able to deliver publicly in first term so may have to use Military for his own gains. The planning couldn't be executed if it wasn't for Doval and all these promotions, media hype and advertising is need of hour for Modi and his political career. This is an outsider observation based upon the picture on other side of the coin.

Royal Saudi Air Force is full of all sorts of high-tech weaponry and infrastructure, yet at the start of the Yemen War, fighter aircraft's mission success rate was less than 20%. They had to ask PAF to guide them.

Same applies to India. While the IAF has over 230 Su-30 MKIs, it's jamming and communication infrastructure was no match for Pakistan Air Force last year.

The 230+ Su-30 MKIs should be able to take on 70+ F-16s but couldn't.

So what has actually changed with this acquisition, nothing. If PAF felt vulnerable, it would've gone for J-10s a few years back.

So far, Rafale hype looks more like a cover up for corruption in Indian high-ups and distraction from Covid-19 than a game changer in the region.

Yes big difference. I think all rafales are for pakistan.i don't see India deploying these jets against china.we need something to detect it. Detection of rafale is key for us.i hope we will find a solution or probably already have it.

Let me mention something from past. Before Operation Swift Retort; everything in Indian arsenal was supposedly aimed at China and for Indian Military especially IAF; their low tier was enough to washout PAF and claim Air Superiority.

Then what happened? PAF did the most unexpected and not just for India but many players out there who have been arming them with a dream to contain China. Now see the tone down that these Rafale(s) are for PAF which verifies that whatever India had, was nothing despite the lower number & economic constrains of PAF.

What we learnt? PAF always prepares with full estimation of enemy and even in a sense of bigger threat. The calm on the faces & not so media bragging or hype is a sign to support what PAF said that all the preparations are in place and the game changer mindset will be proven wrong again. PAF will always keep the game one step ahead.

This is akin to asking if India having M2K in 1965 would have enabled it to win the war over Pakistan.

The answer is Yes, But you have to fight with what you have today. You cannot fight with what you will have in the future.

By the time Rafales are operationally ready in IAF, PAF will have more surprises in store and the result of 27th Feb, 2019 is bound to be repeated. :agree:

ok come with your surprise .

Lol,its not the MKI thats not effective. Its the vanilla R-77.Change the BVR and you will see the f-16s run away with their tail between their legs.MKI is fundamentally a better aircraft.Still on 27th it takes over a dozen f-16s just to hold back a couple su-30mkis.Shooting AMRAAMs at long range can give you advantage in skirmish, but in all out massed attack PAF will be decimated ,no need for rafales.260 MKIs are alone enough. Its a beast. And has got r-77-1 and astra now.

Rafale is needed for 3 things mainly - meteor,SPECTRA and SEAD/DEAD against s-300/400 class air defence.
If the a2a of air superiority platform is inferior , that makes it inferior. It doesnt matter if the plane can detect a fighter jet at 200 kms if it cant fire at it.I am not doubting its capabilities, its just not as relatively effective as it was 20 years ago

Su 30mki is not as effective as it was 20years ago is totally due to our mod and iaf incompetence in upgrading it. Its upgradation should have started 5-10 years ago. Its not the platform that is to be blamed but the sheer mod/iaf/babus shortshightedness and redtapes. Paf is much better in improving their force with low budgets but our forces only wants new shiny foreign toys rather than supporting indigenous products and upgrading existing platforms.

The fault lies with Modi who was focused on Rafales as gift to Ambani rather than Upgrading SU-30MKI to Super Sukhoi.

Good observation. Even our chiefs have somehow become motormouths. And PM is using his usual PR tactics to sway various ground issues. No body in even IAF is taking the J20 seriously. I have no idea when did our forces become so shortshighted. God knows how much kickbacks these generals get

MKI is a serious threat and so is M2K but on 27th they failed to make an impact, it's not the machine it's the pilot behind the machine and the commander behind mission planning which makes a difference.

JF17 BLK3 is here. By the time you have Rafales, we will have J-20s and J-31s waiting to shoot down your Rafales like flies in the sky.
sir you are talking like our sanghis , what will you get even if you shoot our few planes ? you can not get even an inch of indian land . you need strong army which can take our land .
you don't have capacity to annexe and hold our land .

It was all for the Rafale kickbacks.

IAF was worried that If Super Sukhoi upgrade went ahead then people will question the need for Rafale/MMRCA.

Hence they put the Super Sukhoi upgrade in the back burner.

But guess what wars do not wait for IAF kickbacks and their timeline.

27th Feb, 2019 showed up and IAF lost the battle miserably.

Their displaying of AIM-120 is even more shameful and pathetic.

LoL

Modi wanted to take GB from Pakistan but ended up surrendering more land in Ladakh to China.

"Neither is anyone inside our territory nor is any of our post captured" - Indian PM Narender Modi (aka Surrender Modi)
