3 Year Extension for COAS Pakistan

I jst hope that this thing happened in the light of limited interference from the yanks as they did enjoyed in the PAST...!!!

for once it should have been an independent move. The coming days will surly outline the role of every entity.

There were rumors that Washington was pressing Zardari not to give Kiani the extension. But there were those too who didnt hesitated frm sayin " Oh it was expected as this guy was amongst there assets "

I jst hope all these rumors turn out false and for once we might have an independent electoral free from all kinds of foreign interferences...!!!

Would he be accepting that ??

3 years is a long time, it will hurt a lot of other junior generals who had a chance to go to the top positions.

I hope Kiyani doesn't accepts it, and even if he does, he does it for 1 years and in that time, he molds his successor, who can then lead the army as Kiyani did.

It may send a bad signal.
Some speculation that a VCOAS post might be created to continue the process of promotions to 4 star, and retain some of the very talented generals like Shamim Wyne etc.

Also, more talk of some restructuring to strengthen the position of the JCOS post or create a CiC position, and Gen. Kiyani will be appointed to it once created.

We need more commanders and strategic planners in PA

DAWN.COM | Pakistan | Govt announces extension of Gen Kayani's tenure

ISLAMABAD: In an address to the nation on late Thursday night, the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced the decision to extend the tenure of the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani by another three years.

The prime minister said that the extension of Kayani's tenure will begin from November 29 2010. Prime Minister Gilani said that decision was made after consultation with the President Asif Ali Zardari.

Prime Minister Gilani also said that the extension of General Kayani's tenure is in the best interest of the nation.

Gen Hamid Gul Stated , If Kiani didnt had accepted this extention then this would have been better for the overall health of the Org !!

While I favored an extension but of a year to 18 months not of three years, that's too long. More questions and doubts will arise from this. Surely, the army has more competent generals, this descion may make anylists question the competence of other fine leaders.

Also to keep the ball of democracy rolling at least one general needed to retire and other one placed by the PM in the tenure of PPP govt.

3 years is long time. Army is very disciplined organization, otherwise it will create lot of rebellions inside juniors.

These are not normal circumstance Pakistan is facing today hence rules does not apply in its strict sense.
Perhaps govt. is not willing to take the risk of new general!!!

this is kiyani's decision because the way he extends isi chief Pasha for his post which gives a signal that he is ready too...

Gen. Kayan is instrumental to keep the stability in Pakistan and in the whole region. He is the most professional COAS in our history and we are proud of him. This was a very wise decision to extend his tenure and we thank PM Gilani and Pres. Zardari for keeping the national interests above everything.

May be becuase he is Yes Man lol

Good decision. We need stability at this position, and nothing is perfect than extending COAS Kiyani who has developed vast experience to deal with critical situations in Pakistan.

Good Show - such an indispensable person should have been made COAS for life.
