The Bangladesh government has summoned the Myanmar ambassador and strongly protested the matter

Dhaka has reacted strongly and lodged an official protest against maps reportedly displayed on Myanmar government websites that show the St Martin’s Island as part of the country’s territory.

The government on Saturday summoned Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka U Lwin Oo and strongly protested the matter, reports UNB.

Maritime Affairs Unit Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral (retd) M Khurshed Alam summoned the Myanmar envoy to his office in the afternoon and handed over a strongly-worded protest note.

However, Myanmar Ambassador Lwin acknowledged the matter saying that it was a "mistake" to show the St Martin's Island as part of their own territory, according to a diplomat.

The island was never a part of Myanmar if anyone looks back at the history since 1937.

It was part of British-India when Myanmar got separated back in 1937, said an official adding that this means it was part of India. "A clear line was drawn in between."

In 1974, it was clearly stated through a signed agreement that the island is part of Bangladesh, said the official.

"Even when Bangladesh won the maritime boundary dispute against Myanmar through International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in March 2017, it was clearly mentioned that the island is part of Bangladesh," the official said.

He went on saying: "There's no doubt. How could they (Myanmar) claim St Martin's Island as part of their territory? It's a deliberate attempt."

He reportedly asked the Myanmar envoy why the Myanmar side carried out survey in St Martin's Island. "You can't do it. On what basis you did it?" Khurshed Alam was quoted as telling the Myanmar envoy.

The maps were reportedly uploaded to two Myanmar government websites showing St Martin's Island as a part of Myanmar's territory.

The Myanmar envoy pledged to discuss the matter with his government and convey Dhaka's concerns.

Earlier, Myanmar circulated a picture that claims to show insurgents training, which is actually a photograph of freedom fighters during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

The Myanmar military later issued a rare apology acknowledging that the photographs it published in a book on the crisis over the Rohingya community were ”published incorrectly."

Myanmar must be asked to tender unconditional apology for this act.

Unlike Thai or Vietnamese, burmese are not that educated or sophisticated. Primitive impulse are much more strong among them. They usually do not care about the consequence of their action. Perhaps long isolation from the outside influence is the main factor for their such behavior.

Why only claiming St' Martin from Bangladesh? Burma should also claim Andaman & Nicobar islands from India because these are so near to its coast. After Andaman-Nicobar it should also make claim on entire Indonesia because it is very near to the Andaman islands.

Saint martin, Coxs bazaar and CHT belongs to Myanmar by default because majority of the population in these region are Buddhists and the culture of the people of these regions are similar to the Arakanese.

Im sure those areas look pretty. But it took hard work to be that way. Monkeys are not for hard work but for stealing. Banana is the best they can get along with Rohingya

Monkeys are just trolling with us. They know they can't pull our leg for sure.
Yet, BD needs to go full throttle for some serious capability building!!! And, a plan B regarding Rohingyas shouldn’t be far fetched now that their killing and ethnic cleansing are being widely accepted as a genocide....

Stop talking non sense, Saint Martin island is a part of Cox's Bazar district. Cox' bazar is 99 percent Bengali and 95 percent Muslim. Same with Chittagong district, 99 percent Bengali and 85 percent Muslim. Only in CHT, 50 percent are Bengali and 50 percent are tribals. But CHT is a lightly populated area having only a tiny fraction of population of whole Chittagong region. Overall, Chittagong region is over 90 percent Bengali and less than 10 percent tribals related to burmese ethnic groups.

Population breakdown and ethnicity by districts in Chittagong region-
District population ethnic group
Chittagong 7.9 million 99% Bengali
Cox's Bazar 2.4 million 99% Bengali
Khagrachari 0.6 million 49% Tribals, 51% Bengali
Rangamati 0.6 million 58% Tribals, 42% Bengali
Bandarban 0.4 million 43% Tribals, 57% Bengali

Last 3 districts constitute CHT.

If we ad up, Whole Chittagong region has 11.9 million people, 11 million are Bengali and only 0.9 million are tribals related to burmese.

Its irrelevant whether they are bengali or not they don't want to join the savage nation. Unless everybody would had left for Burma by now who has an open immigration policy for buddhist mongoloid people. Numerous attempt of luring these people by monkeys failed miserably.

Yes, I was going to write also that it is irrelevant if the population of a certain area is the Hindu, Muslim or Buddhist majority. Point is Bangladesh has the sovereignty over that part. I think @Homo Sapiens has become too apologetic when he gave the population figures. He is feeding the trolls of Bongobhumi in Khulna as well.
