Elections 2008

It sounds to good to be true.......please post some links to election results so we are sure that mushys mob has been thrown into the dustbins.

You know what, opportunist like the Ch. brothers and the likes are not the Mushy mob. Its people like myself who are the Mushy mob and we will remain even when he is relegated to history...its not about the party of PML-Q (the others are just as bad or even worse). I am just waiting to take pot shots at all of you once your boys are in the house..(no need to hide behind well he is not our boy..since all the so called democrats are back in power, lets see how much democracy and transparency prevails now)...:P

Would love to see new heights of "achaa kirdaar" and "Imaandari" being reached post PML-Q losers..

Good stuff Champ.

So 5 seats for PML-Q, 5 for PML-N, and 3 for PPP. What is IND? Independent? I am guessing they are neutral.

It seems that not too many people were fooled by the evil Zardari.

I found this in the constitution about how they can remove the president.

PART III
The Federation of Pakistan
Chapter 1. THE PRESIDENT

47. Removal [22][or impeachment] of President.
[22A](1) Notwithstanding anything contained in the Constitution, the President may, in accordance with the provisions of this Article, be removed from office on the ground of physical or mental incapacity or impeached on a charge of violating the Constitution or gross misconduct.
(2) Not less than one-half of the total membership of either House may give to the Speaker of the National Assembly or, as the case may be, the Chairman written notice of its intention to move a resolution for the removal of, or, as the case may be, to impeach, the President; and such notice shall set out the particulars of his incapacity or of the charge against him.]
(3) If a notice under clause (2) is received by the Chairman, he shall transmit it forthwith to the Speaker.
(4) The Speaker shall, within three days of the receipt of a notice under clause (2) or clause (3), cause a copy of the notice to be transmitted to the President.
(5) The Speaker shall summon the two Houses to meet in a joint sitting not earlier than seven days and not later than fourteen days after the receipt of the notice by him.
(6) The joint sitting may investigate or cause to be investigated the ground or the charge upon which the notice is founded.
(7) The President shall have the right to appear and be represented during the investigation, if any, and before the joint sitting.
(8) If, after consideration of the result of the investigation, if any, a resolution is passed at the joint sitting by the votes of not less than two-thirds of the total membership of [23][Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament)] declaring that the President is unfit to hold the office due to incapacity or is guilty of violating the Constitution or of gross misconduct, the President shall cease to hold office immediately on the passing of the resolution.

Not sure I follow you Champ. PML-Q is leading in this table. In your others you have PPP leading. Are the others wrong?

One thing I still don't get is....how can anyone vote for Zardari after what he's done, and admitted to. Why not vote Independent? Democracy is such a load of bs in Pakistan.

The NY Times used to be one of my favorite and more respected newspapers, until their coverage on Pakistan went the way of their coverage of the Bush Administration - how can we find any negative in something positive. Which is why now I actually sympathize with Bush on some issues.

Actually, I hope the Republicans win the next election, any party that has someone like Obama in it must be the wrong choice.

maybe its the time for mr, musharf to open his eyes , and forget about the whole idea of free and fair idealogy of ruling pakistan.

If the new parliment gives a vote of confidence in musharaff i have no problem with him staying on as president.
Do i think musharaff is corrupt.....no....but the people he surrounds himself with are ,so in a certain sense he is complicit in the crime.

And I agree with you...to me as his supporter, his mistake has been the appointment of the thieves like the Ch. brothers...to me there is no difference in them and the likes of BB, NS, Zardari etc..

This doesnt make sense. It is better to have a non corrupt leader surrounded by corrupt people, than a courrpt leader also surrounded by corrupt people (unless you're suggesting the PPP is not a corrupt party, in which case you'd be wrong). There will be less abuse of the system that way. Additionally, an uncorrupt leader will not take on corrupt people if he is truly corrupt unless he's forced into it..it's like the coalition with the MMA..it wasn't wanted, but it was necessary. One has to make do with what one has got and minimalize the damage as much as possible. I think the observers have mentioned it's an unrigged election..for the first time in Pakistan's history - the only other one being the 1970 elections..oddly enough the military was in charge then too. It's still ludicrous how anyone can vote for Zardari, and given the choice out of Zardari and Musharraf, one has to pick Musharraf, even over Nawaz Sharif. Your thinking is lacklustre like those who vote for Zardari also.
