Ex-governor, UN ambassador Nikki Haley calls out Eileen Gu: 'You're either American or Chinese'

I have no issue with Eileen Gu. She is entitled to choose whichever country she wants as her mother is still a Chinese national (making her one too) and her father is unknown.
So we both agree some US politicians and US media are just crazy. If a Chinese athlete chose to represent US to compete, Chinese officials won't bother to comment a word, their jobs are not designed to attack a teenager girl.

Mad about Gu

The Beijing Games have been a thrill for three-time medalist Eileen Gu, but the American-born skier has faced some harsh criticism for her decision to represent China on the Olympic stage. Among Gu's many critics is former United States ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who has not been shy in voicing her displeasure with the 18-year-old.

In an interview with RealClearPolitics, Haley, the first female governor of South Carolina, admitted that she has not watched a second of the 2022 Olympics, and accused Gu of “standing for human rights abuses.”

“In terms of the citizenship, look, China or the U.S.? You have got to pick a side. Period,” Haley said. "You’ve got to pick a side, because you're either American or you're Chinese, and they are two very different countries.”

Haley believed that the serious human rights allegations against China should’ve been enough to convince any athlete not to put on the Chinese colours at the Games.

“I can't get the images out of my head of people on their knees, blindfolded, knowing what's about to happen to them,” Haley explained. “I can't imagine in any way supporting that or propping up China.”

Gu is already the most dominant women’s freestyle skier in the world. Born in San Fransisco, she had the choice to represent either the United States or China thanks to her mom’s Chinese citizenship. The youngster ultimately decided to represent the host country, and her choice has been a polarizing topic throughout the Games.

Gu has done her best to avoid most questions surrounding her citizenship throughout the Olympics, but in an interview with Reuters, she did admit that China still feels like home to her.

"So I grew up spending 25-30 percent (of my time) in China. I'm fluent in Mandarin and English and fluent culturally in both," Gu told Reuters. "So coming here, I really feel there was a sense of coming home. I feel just as American as Chinese. I don't feel I'm taking advantage of one or another. They understand that my mission is to foster a connection between countries and not a divisive force."

Gu won a trio of medals in Beijing, including gold in both the women’s halfpipe and big air competition. Her triumphant Games made her the first-ever "action sports" athlete (freestyle skiing or freestyle snowboarding) to win three medals in a single Olympics.

She is planning to attend Stanford University in the coming year while she continues her freestyle skiing career.

WTF, she's Indian Punjabi??

No f*cking way. I thought she was white this entire time. B*tch blended right in...

LOL

NIkki Haley is a bitch. She tries to be more American than the White Americans themselves.

I don't know what this curry muncher is trying to show by trying to speak out this way, if she's thinking to win any favors not going to happen a descendant of a rag head.
And funny thing married to a white guy....

No, she was born in South Carolina.

Then she wasn't born with any marbles.

Nicky Haley doesn't work for the government anymore and she is free to state her personal opinion on the matter whether we agree with it or not.

Eileen Gu is not the first athlete to do this..so getting all up in a huff suddenly about her is a bit late.

edit..here's a list of 15 from just this year..nevermind all the ones from previous Olympics.
"American-born Olympic freestyle skier Eileen Gu has been the target of online criticism after winning gold for China, her mother’s birthplace, but she’s hardly the only athlete competing under a different nationality.

...

Yet for all the scrutiny she has endured for choosing to compete for China instead of the United States, switching nationalities for the games is not uncommon.

An athlete might decide to switch countries for many reasons, including because it might be less competitive elsewhere.

In addition to Gu, there are at least 15 other American-born athletes competing in the Beijing Winter Olympics for other countries:

  • Hailey Kops, figure skater for Israel
  • Isabel Atkin, freestyle skier for Great Britain
  • Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian, monobobber for Jamaica
  • Jieruimi Shimisi, formerly known as Jeremy Smith, ice hockey player for China
  • John-Henry Kruger, speed skater for Hungary
  • Katie Vesterstein, alpine skier for Estonia
  • Louie Vito, snowboarder for Italy
  • Madison Woo, hockey player for China
  • Nathan Crumpton, skeleton for American Samoa
  • Rebekah Kolstad, hockey player for China
  • Sarah Escobar, alpine skier for Ecuador
  • Seamus O’Connor, snowboarder for Ireland
  • Tim Koleto, ice dancer for Japan
  • Zoe Atkin, freestyle skier for Great Britain
  • Zhu Yi, figure skater for China"

Tell her you are either American or Indian, lets see how she responds. What about those silicon valley indians who live and breathe in America but openly supports a Indian fascist party in power.

Nikki Haley: 'What is the point of the UN' if it does not call out Russia or China?

The former UN Ambassador asks how 'an organization committed to peace' can allow a 'brutal dictator' to commit genocide

April 5, 2022 6:39pm EDT

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley questioned the reasoning behind the U.N.'s existence in light of its inaction on Russia and China Tuesday on "The Story with Martha MacCallum."

" … [H]ow can you say you're an organization committed to peace, and allow such a brutal dictator [who's] killing innocent civilians and allow that genocide to happen? How can you do that?" she asked host Martha MacCallum.

"China's doing it to the Uyghurs, but this takes it to a whole new level. So if you're not going to acknowledge China, you're not going to call out Russia, what is the point of the UN?"

Haley called for Russia to be removed from the U.N.'s Human Rights Council and Security Council, adding that the country's leaders will say "whatever they need" to distract from their behavior.

She advocated not minding Russia's words, but instead calling its leaders out "over and over and over again."

If the U.N. is "not going to act for something like this - … why do[es] [it] exist?" she asked.

Haley said Russian energy companies should be sanctioned, adding that it is "unthinkable" that President Biden has not sanctioned them.

"It's the one sucker punch you could give him," she continued. "And they should be doing that now, without hesitation. Send the planes, send the equipment, sanction the energy companies, and let's help the Ukrainians win this fight for freedom."

" … And the thing that sickens me is the EU is going to act and then Biden's going to follow," Haley added. "That's what he's done this entire time. He's followed other countries. Never has the US followed, we've led. Where are we as a leader? We are supposed to be the number one … authority on freedom."

And Indian asking such questions....

Not into American politics but I was surprised when you mentioned it, she's Indian which explains the hypocritical statements now

American politicians born to Indian parents are oftentimes more hardcore Hindutva supporters than Indians themselves.

Tulsi Gabbard was born to an Indian mother in Hawaii, I believe. She was a POTUS candidate and is a big fan of Modi.

Nicky Haley doesn't work for the government anymore and she is free to state her personal opinion on the matter whether we agree with it or not.

She is very active in American politics. She was in the POTUS race previously and has indicated she will run again.

Shah se zyada shah kay wafadaar….

Nikki should probably prepare to flee usa soon……maybe find a 3rd country willing to take her
USA will never make her anything, they don’t like curry in White House

All she had to do was look at this page that lists everybody who has renounced their citizenship and she'd notice Eileen Gu's name is not listed.

Love how the PDF Chinese here keep saying "You cannot be American and Chinese" when I say I still have Chinese Citizenship here (Actually it happened too often then you think).

But then how quickly the same people said "What's the big deal, US being pathetic for having her to choose"

As for Elieen Gu, I don't care, she probably is like me, like the Chinese money so hang on to the Citizenship, I don't really care about stuff like that, but I do find it amazing how these people be that contradict to their own principal lol

I did, both. And if I am not mistaken, some one here think my "ID Card" and "My passport is old"

If you want, I am more than gladly to invite you to my home in Guangdong or the one in Dongguan. That is if you can get a visa to come to China first LOL
