In an actual conflict against superpowers, the aircraft carrier alone is of limited utility as an offensive asset. The planes on the carrier are nothing special. The F-18 is slow, clumsy and has a low flight ceiling.

However, the carrier can deploy planes in the middle of an ocean and provide air support to far away amphibious operations. This means it is great for bullying small countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam.

Afghanistan is a landlocked and highly mountainous region, which is why supplies string in from Pakistan... I expect a Chinaman to know that air raids aren't effective on ridges, as it is the only thing CCP understand. Think Long March.

PS: The F/A-18/E/Fs are more advanced, numerous and experienced than any Chinese fighter jet in service. The US doesn't even need to deploy F-22s for air superiority against China, lol. It's quiet humerous how you guys dismiss ACs as "nothing special." Think Taiwan and 1996.

it's true tho, ACs are going the way of the destroyers. the new age is about cyber warfare, asat, ballistic/cruise missles, and submarines.

Not quite yet. As the another poster pointed out, AC is not useful against other advance military countries. But its useful against 3rd rated countries.

1996 was how long ago? F-18 E/F give me a break, they're slow and clumsy, even F-18 C pilots are laughing at them. Low max speed of Mach 1.8, low range of 700 km, (both of these are lower than a Mig-21 btw), low weapons load, you kidding? Maybe F-18 E/F can destroy Japan but send 1 here and the USN has 1 less plane to do maintanance on, send 10 and they'll have 10 less, send 100 and they'll have to replace the carrier.
