Before you get your emotions on the horse, I also have dual citizenship!

Should Pakistan abolish dual citizenship law for at least ten to fifteen years IF not forever?

If some Pakistani born....wants to visit Pakistan, there should be a fee, say $50.

This way, we will generate revenue which is NEEDED to support our economy and not our emotions.

I know that emotions run high but emotions don't count when the country is bankrupt.

There should be a fee which you have to pay to the embassy/consulate before going to Pakistan.

Source: Wikipedia

Pakistanis in the Middle East: 1,893,373 (2010)
Pakistanis in France: 50,000 (2004)
Pakistanis in the United States: 286,302 - 700,000
Pakistanis in Canada: 124,730 - 300,000
Pakistanis in Britain: 1,200,000 (2010 estimate)

According to the above figures, ~4.1 million people live overseas in the above mentioned countries.

So, if 500,000 people go to Pakistan each year, the revenue generated will be--

500,000 * $50: $25 million

Note: There are Pakistanis living in Africa, other parts of Europe, Asia etc

If 4.1 million Pakistani origin people visit their homeland every year for one time, we could generate $205 million!!!

Isn't it enough of a contribution to return to Pakistan and spend money there? As a tourist, I mean. Or, if you have received an education in some other country and return, then Pakistan benefits from having the skilled person without having to have spent Pakistani taxpayers money to educate them.

$50 is not too much anyway. Pakistanis visiting Pakistan spend money but our country is bankrupt and we need to raise money. As I mentioned earlier, this law could be implemented for ten to fifteen years or until we get our economy back on track.

"return, then Pakistan benefits from having the skilled person without having to have spent Pakistani taxpayers money to educate them."

I have not heard of a story where a skilled worker went back to Pakistan but had to spend money to get used to the customs or to take education to integrate in the society.

This is true other way around. If you were raised in Pakistan and went to the U.S. or ... you had to spend money to get the same degree which you already had in Pakistan...

I think its $400 to apply for a Pakistani Visa from America (if you don't have NICOP)

As Truthseeker pointed out, they have worked out that encouraging people to visit Pakistan in the end leads to more investment than charging them for it at entry.

99% of the Pakistanis in the Middle East are still Pakistani passport holders, you can't charge your own citizens to pay while entering into the country.

Have we seen positive results after concluding this, giving brain some tough job?

I don't think so...

Investment comes when law prevails in all situations. If there are no encouraging results, why not try a different idea this time around?

It is not that bad eh? What other options do we have to get our country out of bankruptcy?

A penny in these times does not hurt...

It is not about 'charging' someone--

It is about collecting revenue and telling people that Pakistan needs MONEY!!!

This will also have a trickle down effect and emotions will wake up, maybe in the shape of foreign investment.

Charging and collecting revenue work only up to a point and no more. Considering emigrants as an ATM will not work in any meaningful way.

People the world over already know that Pakistan always needs more and more money, but fatigue is setting in, given the abject failures to utlizie that money is lastingly useful ways.

Lastly, emotions waking up has NOTHING to do with foreign investiment. Global capital will move only where are conditions ripe for the best returns: trained manpower, suitable infrastructure, and supportive CONSISTENT government policies.

Do you have Pakistani Nationality?

No.. Then please leave this discussion to Pakistani with dual nationality.

God Bless.

What do you mean? Sorry, I did not understand.

"Considering emigrants as an ATM will not work in any meaningful way."

Do you mean migrants? And why won't it work in any meaningful situation?

"People the world over already know that Pakistan always needs more and more money, but fatigue is setting in, given the abject failures to utlizie that money is lastingly useful ways."

It is one thousand times better than getting aid from some country. People will always think, don't care. You are right that there is no mechanism to support that or if there was one, corruption would have prevailed--.

Agreed but global investment won't come the next day. The immediate solution to get some money is----maybe abolishing dual nationality?

Dual citizenship law should not be abolished

I will select Canadian citizenship in case to select one but love both countries :D

That is your decision sir. However, if you want to visit Pakistan--pay money.

Simple is that.

$50 is not too much. You probably spend that amount on weekly groceries or more.

Maybe, we could minimize the 'brain drain' by this...

Who knows...
