What's new

Apple's center of gravity is China, not Cupertino

So you're telling me that one country alone out of 195 purchases 20% of all iPhones?
There is this wonderful American invention call the 'internet' and its companion tip 'keywords search'. Might want to give them a try.

In an unexpected twist, China overtook the USA to clinch the title of the largest single country for iPhone sales in Q2 2023. This historic moment marked the first time China surpassed the USA in terms of iPhone sales volume. China's share of the iPhone market surged to an impressive 24%, overshadowing the USA's 21% share.

Thanks for using this wonderful invention to find data to support my argument.

The guy who hearted your data thinks it's a wonderful idea to move production out of China... China, the biggest purchaser of the product.

I, too, thinks it is a good idea for Apple to move at least some of its iPhone production out of China, and the reality is that Tim Cook saw that need during the COVID global shutdown. Currently, Cook has to do whatever he can to keep production moving and if he has to pay a few more bribes to greedy CPC members, he will do it. The end of globalization is inevitable and moving.

China has been the world's factory for over 40 years — but the tides are changing.
Even some Chinese manufacturers are shifting parts of their supply chains out of China to manage risks.
Apple was burned badly when protests against China's COVID-zero lockdowns hit iPhone output in 2022.
Since then, the company has been trying to diversify its supply chains away from China. Apple has already moved some of its iPhone production to India, and it was exploring moving its iPad manufacturing there, too.

biggest purchaser - as per article only 24% of Apple's iPhone sales

Former engineers of Apple have told me that like the secret sauce to the company innovating year in, year out, particularly hardware, really, is that planeloads of designers, you know, lawyers, engineers fly from Cupertino to either Shanghai or Hong Kong on quite literally a daily basis. And some of them will be at the factories for weeks. Some of them will be there for months. They sent their top engineers, which is really a way of saying they sent America’s top engineers to these countries to help them build all the necessary skills."

How's that? Lol
The thing is China's supply chain is necessary but not indispensable. If the US government national security threats focused foreign policy carries on then Apple will have no choice than to derisk from China and move many of its products manufacturing outside China since the risk will not match the return on investment anymore. This is what they have been doing encouraged by US government. Its not something Apple wanted but they have no choice or say over US foreign policy.

Good luck to Apple!

Ah yes.. only 24% ... you mean only the largest purchaser in the world, the largest source of revenue.. one country out of 195.

You do not have to manufacture 95% of products in a country that accounts for only 24% of revenue

Good luck to Apple!
Yeah, Apple will be fine dont worry their products are popular and regarded highly around the globe, even in China. Their customers are the most die hard fans when it comes to brand value recognition and devotion. No other phone company has been able to build such a loyal fan base and a dedicated and large ecosystem(Ios, macbook, apple music store etc) which links all your accounts together with your apple IDs . In short apple customers very rarely leave Apple once they buy an apple product. Same can't be said about other phone brands like Huawei, Samsung, Motorola, OPPO etc etc. Whose customers leave the brand with the drop of a hat. Lol
So don't worry, apple will still be fine even if much of their production leaves China. 😊😁

Throngs left apple in China, including me.

After 4 years, Huawei regains the top spot of the Chinese phone market with 19.7%, Apple falls to the second spot with 16.8%

Let's see how long they will last. Lol Apple has been on top for a long time now. Moroever Apple phones are at the high value end of the market. They have some the most expensive phones/products compared to others generally. So reason their revenues dwarfs all their rivals eventhough some might sell more cheaper phones than them. Lol even so Apple is still among the top phone brands globally in almost every country even in quantity despite their high prices

Asia needs to de-Apple.

Huawei, OPPO, Samsung, Sony, Sharp, anything.

I was just stating a fact that what you said was not true. No one can stay on the top forever.

Huawei was the No.1 phone brand in China and the world before US started Huawei ban, but now Huawei is quickly back to the top in China.

Four years ago in 2019, it was Huawei's peak moment. At that time, Huawei's global mobile phone shipments were 240 million units, surpassing Apple's 198 million units. According to statistics from third-party platforms, Huawei's global mobile phone shipments in the second quarter of 2020 Huawei's mobile phone shipments reached 55.8 million units, surpassing Samsung's 53.7 million units, and achieved first place in the world for the first time. This is also the first time in more than ten years that Huawei has surpassed Samsung.

Asia needs to de-Apple.

Huawei, OPPO, Samsung, Sony, Sharp, anything.
Also cars

10 years ago, Elon Musk dismissed BYD as a joke, a toy car, but fast forward today, BYD is already the top EV maker in the world.
