India to go slow on AMCA ??

Look guys I don't think that we really need this AMCA as a 5th gen aircraft by 2025 is completely a stupid idea I would suggest that we should go and devot all of are resources and to just one project either FGFA or AMCA .

Since the AMCA is only to replace the Jaguar and Mig-27 (both also being replaced in some part by MMRCA) I don't think this is really too big of a concern and it seems that the initial timeline WAS too ambitious anyway (as many said). I'd rather they got all the kinks worked out and produced a shoddy product in a quicker manner. In any case the IAF will have the PAK FA/FGFA, MMRCA, SUPER MKI, UPG MIG-29, UPG M2K and LCA MK.1+2 by mid 2020s so there's no real urgency and any delays encountered in 2-3 years can be supplemented by extra orders of MMRCA.

there is no immediate need for AMCA not until 2025 ADA and HAL need to work together this time i think we should get foreign consultancy from Boeing or Dassault or any other foreign firm the AESA building a technology demonstrator is easy however we need to cross 2 hurdles the radar and engine i hope this time it won't take as long

and btw do not expect to see AMCA in IAF service till 2025 the first flight will take place either late this decade or early next decade by 2025 FGFA LCA MK2 would be in service as well

the idea of developing AMCA or any next gen aircraft is laughable and nöthin but get tax earned money to fill own pockets by babus of DRDO. For god sake Our 4th gen LCA IS yet to get FOC. We are importng engine for 4th gen Lca. We have nö radar of our own forget AESA. Lca mk2 is years away. How can we even think about 5th gen AMCA. Its good to have home grown tech and plane and something 2 b proud of. But being naive wont solve these problems. Aiming moon is not bad but we have move step by step.

I understand your point of view. I know there were people who said the same about ISRO when it started operations. It doesn't matter how bad the start is. It's the capacity development that matters.I'd rather have them spend my tax money trying to achieve beyond the grasp of beyond the grasp of current technology than settle for creating something safe (and mediocre) even at the risk of failure.

i agree with u but we need to be practical. The proper step should be Lca mk1>mk2>mk3(fully home made) > Amca.meanwhile sep. and parallel research should be done on various aspects of 5th gen/stealth elements. Also we should try to make products indegenous step by step.(like engines. Avoinics radar etc.) biting more than we can chew will lead us nowhere. Isro is ideal example of step by step growth and research. R&D work of isro do not hinder the current product developement but rather enhance it.

I honestly don't see LCA as a platform to develop as an air superiority aircraft. mk1>2>3 as suggested for you would work great for our interceptor requirement. But out future aircraft carriers and forward airbases will rely on MRCA's along with the FGFA. AMCA is to fill up the gap we have. It's a step towards complete indegenization of all requirements of the airforce.
With even the heli research picking up, we may not have to rely on foreign suppliers any more. That's a massive advantage to have in event of a combat.

there is no immediate need for AMCA not until 2025

There is actually no need until 2035 to 2040, when the MKIs will need replacements, because all older fighters will be replaced by FGFA and even if IAF wants to increase numbers, additional FGFA, MMRCA, LCA makes more sense than developing a completelly new fighter type.

51 x Mirage 2000s
69 x Mig 29
36 x upgraded Mig 27
~100 x Jaguars

=> 256

FGFA order 250+

Not to forget that AURA UCAV is the way better option to replace Jaguars in the ground attack role than AMCA!

But the worst part is, that they are delaying decisons for LCA, because they have already AMCA in mind. Why can't they get one thing done, induct it into the force and then start another project, why do they have to all do all things at once? LCA MK1 developent, LCA MK2 development, N-LCA development, AMCA development...all at the same time and then they wonder why things went wrong.

i think that is why we are upgrading the Mirages and MiG's to serve till 2030 by then AMCA would already be flying in IAF colors in active service, the AMCA will replace the Mirage 2000 Jaguar and MiG-27 fleet while the LCA MK2 will replace the MiG-21 bisons the MMRCA fighter would replace the already retired MiG-23 fleet and the FGFA would replace the MiG-29 once AMCA enters service the MKI would be our primary long range strike fighter

and i agree with your last part this is why pvt sector needs to be involved with some of the projects LCA MK1 as of now is finished final validation and testing is going on but the FOC standard will enter service by end of next year MK2 is the real beast we need but that will only come in 2017 to replace the Bisons the non upgraded MiG-21's would be replaced by MMRCA and LCA MK1 fighters

and i'm guessing the LCA MK1's would be used as advanced jet trainers at the air force training command because MK2 would take over

just change whole fleet of 200 mig 21, 150+mig 27 and 150+ jaguars. we need to change whole fleet of mig 21, 27, jaguars just right now.

i personally beleive india should concentrate more on developing more on lca mark 2 version & indian version of FFGA & AURA ucav
Stop wasting time & money on AMCA ,becoz lca took 20 -25 yrs ,still it is not inducted yet ,why just develop a 5th gen fighter to show world as TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATOR like trishul:lol:

A better approach.. would be to link up the AMCA with the FGFA..
get experience on the FGFA.. learn the methods.. and the mistakes..
Then go into the AMCA with a 5++ gen idea in mind.

but the problem we are india not china ,we are not so capable of reverse engineering or copying like chinese:D ,but surely our AMCA design has better stealth design than PAKfa

By making that statement, you are stating that Indian designers are not as capable as the Chinese..
