Prominent Pakistani human rights activist Asma Jehangir wants Pakistan to put its act together for a time-bound mechanism to address the unrest in Balochistan while appealing for stopping "hair-raising" atrocities in the troubled province.

Jehangir, who is in India as part of a delegation of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) attending a seminar organised by Supreme Court Bar Association, said her country was going through a "very difficult" phase which was not comprehended here properly.

"I think that the government (of Pakistan) has to put its act together. First of all, the atrocities which are very tragic, which are hair-raising have to stop," Jehangir told PTI on the sidelines of dinner hosted in her honour by South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) and South Asian Women in Media (SAWM).

She said Pakistan government has to have "time-bound... political talks so that they can convince the nationalists of a sincere agenda which should be placed into their hands so that the nationalists can execute it themselves".

The whole attitude of giving Baluchistan something should now disappear, she said, adding "the Balochs have to be in-charge as a province for themselves."

Talking about 26/11 Mumbai attacks and Pakistan's inability to bring the perpetrators to book, she said they have denounced it but at the same time India must remember that they go through terrorist attacks every single day.

I once heard interview of Asma Jehangir, she said that her parents were against army action in East Pakistan and people used to mock her with words "Ghaddar ke bachche" and she relates same for Balochistan.

well we like her or not, we have to do something about Baluchistan, and we know that the current government has done nothing, well except forgiving traitors.

I for once, would like her to actually provide some proof of these "Atrocities" there is NO military presence in Balochistan. How can they be orchestrating atrocities there?

What is the Frontier Corps if they are not part of Pakistan's military?

There are no atrocities going on. Where what city? How many have been injured or killed? How many shots fired? Where are photos and videos? Where is the blood?

I too have met a couple of Baloch here in Lahore who've maintained that the Security Agencies are committing gross human rights abuses in the province and that people truly are getting angry because of that. The Pukhtoons, the Hazaras, some Punjabi settlers on the other hand and One Baloch youth, from Balochistan, actually felt that the Army was doing the right thing, that the Sardars are deliberately stirring up popular sentiment whereby the answer to all of their ills is 'Because you choose to secede to Pakistan' or the oft-repeated 'Punjabi khaa giya'. I dunno the veracity of these claims nor do I know whether there our human rights abuses in Balochistan but I do wish that some of our resident Baloch and Non-Baloch Balochistanis on PDF can shed some light on it and tell us what the average Balochistani (Baloch and Otherwise) is thinking ?

I think all such websites are banned in Pakistan. You live in America you can check out for information on bygwaah.com and clicking on the section "State Victims", there is lot of information given over there about individual person missing or killed.

its pakistani matter, we dont like to engage in assam, kashmir, khalistan issue or hundreds of separatist movements,so please stay out of our business, you are in position either ethics ormanner to judge on that

Yaar aab itna tou moun pakka kar keh jhoot na bol keeh mujhe gunahagar ko bhi sharam aaa jai !

Pakistan is repeating the same mistake which she did in Bangal. i'm glad that baluchistan doesn't border with India so there is no possibility of India's intervention.
pakistan should share more revenue with Baluchistan for its resources and bring some development there. that would be a good start.

India needs to support them morally and politically against gross human right violations.

Well meeting with someone don't make her a culprit. Even Javed Miandad was seen with Bal Thakrey(google for the pic) and in India we know him as the father in law of Dawood Ibrahim's daughter.
