Avalanche traps about 150 Pakistani soldiers

People who are delusion about the public not caring about our soldiers need a wakeup call.
Every third sms mentions them.. every person who is spoken to mourns them.
At the same time.. every person who has to wait for 15 minutes in traffic when the chief leaves his home or comes back feels cheated and disillusioned.. because when we feel like kissing the hands of those who gave their lives for us..our angst against the inadvertent daily suffering for protecting a few men acts against it.
And this is not limited to the military..
people have come to hate all figures of authority in this country.. from politicians... to IG's.. CM's, PM ,CNS and the president.
Because these people are visible in the news.. visible at some point in our lives living it off like kings while the rest of us brave the heat in traffic and honk away.

Nawaz Sharif also distributed cheques worth Rs500,000 to the families of the affected soldiers in Skardu.

I think ill be unrealistic to expect these were from his own coffers..

but a smart political move nonetheless.. sad that it has to be played when it comes to a depressing event such as this.

Apparently so:

from: Pakistan and India should withdraw forces from Siachen: Nawaz - geo.tv

SKARDU: PML-N president Nawaz Sharif after visiting the site of the avalanche in the Gayari sector called on the governments of Pakistan and India to withdraw their forces from Siachen. Nawaz said the first step should be taken by Pakistan.

Speaking to the media, Nawaz said the present government did not have the will or the capability to fight terrorism. “Immediate attention needs to be given to terrorism and its elimination.”

Earlier Nawaz Sharif arrived in Gayari via helicopter from Skardu. The PML-N president received a briefing on the rescue operation from Corp Commander Lt. General Khalid Nawaz and Forces Commander Major General Akram ul Haq.

Nawaz Sharif also distributed cheques worth Rs500,000 to the families of the affected soldiers in Skardu.

Nothing can pay for the lives of these brave lion-hearts.
They have had put their lives on stake for others, others they don't even know.
This 500,000 is nothing infront of their lives and courage.

And on the other hand, this act had more of a political motive than consolable motive.

No the Public aren't Numb....Even here abroad we the expats are concerned as if the soldiers were our family or friends.
8000 miles away in UK people are as concerned about the soldiers...same in other countries.
All Pakistanis here know about the tragedy and are concerned.

How strange in this melee to praise these brave soldiers who were carrying out their duty to protect ones country which millions of us world wide in the Armed Forces routinely do and also get paid for not one poster has tried to sympathise with the poor civilian personnel who served alongside them and are also missing or start a thread on their roles or post photos on their contribution to the upkeep of the BHQ. I hope some ex or present PA members who have served at this BHQ, post information on them too. From my experience, some of these civillians who are missing may have served 10-20 years at this post.

Regards

Don't be nitpicking mate....The tributes and concern is for all the people trapped in the avalanche no matter what rank they are or without rank.

No one is nitpicking. All posts here pay tribute and talk about the soldiers and none about the civilians. Who were they do you till date know. Were they cooks or dhobis(laundrymen) or sweepers. I am sure some of them may have been serving at this post since its inception 30 years ago.

Those civilians are covered in our posts, as they work for Pakistan Army under Pakistan Army and their duties and work is paid by Pakistan Army. They are not less than a soldier is, going to extremes against the odds to aid the defenders. They would be martyrs too if anyone dies.

Another day for siachin victim yet no survivor. But who cares if a soldier Dies ??? Because this is what they are paid for.

Today Asma Jhangir is worried about Defense Budget,
Hamid Mir is not happy with ISI,
Kkashif Abbasi is angry about why a soldier deserve a plot ....

They don’t care if a soldier dies he doesn’t have a family parents and emotions . He can’t even compete with the Pseudo Patriots who appears on TV shows and talk Crap.

Soldiers serving in Siachen weren't born there. They don’t have personal enmity with India they are there only for You & Me and our beloved Motherland But who care ... ????

ISPR should facilitate media transport to disaster site...They haven't done it.

On Sunday night, ARY was airing the news that media would be taken to the tragedy scene on Monday (Yesterday).

I guess the weather must have closed in. Surely some of these media moguls could afford their own news chopper or something.

That area needs special permissions..and the Army hasn't been encouraging in this regard. In this day and era, keeping something in media spotlight is very important and ISPR are the ones responsible for this.
Weather has been a factor, but there will be Journalists who will be ready to travel with army by road to the site, and that can be done in all weather.

DCC meeting underway with PM in chair - thenews.com.pk

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) has gone underway with the Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in the chair, Geo News reported Tuesday.

At the outset, the meeting prayed for the Pak army troops who were trapped under an avalanche that hit the army camp at Gayari in Siachen on April 7.

Federal ministers for Defence, Foreign Affairs, Information and Interior are present at the meeting besides the three services chiefs and Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

The meeting also reviewed the rescue activities underway at Gayari to recover the buried soldiers and others.

Matters relating to Pak-US relations and Nato supplies are in particular focus at the DCC meeting.

Well, Nawaz Sharif came in a Govt. of Punjab heli, and considering he does not hold any office, it seems wrong.

But at least he went there, unlike the Commander In Chief, HH Asif Ali Zardari, the king of Pakistan.

Understanding Deadly Ice Avalanches | Research - Inside Science

the type of avalanche that came down on Gayari was Noe the normal snow avalanche, but the Ice avalanche which is always massive and always deadly.
It always comes down at over 100mph and involves multiple million tons....
Twin towers of Newyork were 900,000 tons and it was estimated that an year will be needed to clear the rubble.
Gyari Ice avalanche was between 2 and 5 million tons that's at least double to 5 times massive than the Twin towers.
It may take a few more weeks before the rescue/Recovery teams reach any Humans/Human remains.

So are you thinking logically which is required or are you spreading maayoosi which is forbidden?

What has the right wing Pakistani Media reaction to this?

People like Zaid Hamid. I want to know what conspiracy theory did he come up with to blame this avalanche on?
