Avalanche traps about 150 Pakistani soldiers

Understanding Deadly Ice Avalanches | Research - Inside Science

the type of avalanche that came down on Gayari was Noe the normal snow avalanche, but the Ice avalanche which is always massive and always deadly.
It always comes down at over 100mph and involves multiple million tons....
Twin towers of Newyork were 900,000 tons and it was estimated that an year will be needed to clear the rubble.
Gyari Ice avalanche was between 2 and 5 million tons that's at least double to 5 times massive than the Twin towers.
It may take a few more weeks before the rescue/Recovery teams reach any Humans/Human remains.

Hi,

Thanks for letting us know---now that I know it was the ice avalanche with rocks and boulders----that did them in. Allah have mercy on their souls---.

aik dard kay rishtay mein munsalik hum donoo....

Today is my birthday. I was born to an officer of Merchant Navy named Abdur Rauf Saggu on tenth April, 1955. It was Sunday and lady doctor Mrs. Benjamin (RIP) had to leave her Easter Service in the church to help bring me into this world, where the Departure Mark is now closer than the Arrival Mark as I have turned fifty seven.

Believe you me, this is the saddest birthday of my life, because one of my sons Maj Zaka ul Haq is lying trapped under an eighty foot river of ice which has stopped and solidified into a hard mountain at Siachin. Like many others, I was hoping and praying for the miracle of his survival. And make no mistake if anyone who could make his way out of this white granite, it was him… Zaka, my mischievous son. The hope is fast fading away…..the scale of the rescue task is huge, and the efforts impeded by the weather and terrain seem to be puny and piddling…the only thing we are left to do is praying…praying for a miracle. Still, let's continue to pray!

Several times today, I was accosted, 'Saggu Saheb tabiat theek hey?' and I said, 'Haan yar April he na, lagta he zara allergy ho gai he.' Zaka, you've made me realize that I'm growing old and people can see through the thin film of tears in my eyes and excessive sniffing. There's a pall of fragrant sadness over CCH today, although it's the tenth of April and the campus is blooming and beautiful like a princess. CCH is an extraction from Paradise, it truly is! It's a special gift for people like Zaka.

Be sure Zaka if you have by now crossed to the other Kingdom, through the magical power of the wishes of Abdalians we shall transport your CCH to where you have gone and where it really belongs. There again the Adju will give you Front Rolls and Rounds of the Sport Grounds. The housemaster will reach for his cane for the smell of smoking and cardamom, and I shall recommend you for an appointment this time. You might even become the CC on the strength of your debating and sporting skills. Listen up, smoking is bad for health!

From the roiling and swirling turbulence of hope and despair, I can only babble out these few words at the moment.

Bye! My son! Pak Fauj Zindabad

WE ARE MANY, BUT ARE ONE
WE ARE ABDALIANS, SECOND TO NONE

United in grief

A Q Saggu

He is a Deputy Vice Principal (coordination) Cadet College, Hasanabdal.

Please do consider the possibility that it was Allah's mercy that ensured a peaceful end to those departed.

Of course I agree with this prayer and its sentiment.

I am sure that Allah's mercy took the warriors into His embrace quickly and peacefully.

..................... i mean wat r u man !! how beautifully u can dig out a negative things from everything .. man u r a genious but on a opposite note !!!

Nothing can pay for the lives of these brave lion-hearts.
They have had put their lives on stake for others, others they don't even know.
This 500,000 is nothing infront of their lives and courage.

And on the other hand, this act had more of a political motive than consolable motive.

Lets Allah S.W.T decide about the motive coz thats wat is between Allah and the person doing the act !!!

^^ Before making such comments, read about Ice avalanche, these are completely unpredictable unlike the snow avalanche which can be predicted.
There is good knowledge and research about Snow avalanche, but Ice avalanche is still Unknown phenomena and not much research has been done on it.
There is abundance of material available on the subject, just google it and you will see that ice avalanches are very rare, but when they happen they are destructive and they kill.

Please dont make such derogatory comments.

Huh!! What exactly was derogatory there???

And of course it is somebodys responsibility that 150 people are dead. There are safeguards against avalanches.

I know for a fact that Indian civilian geologists are routinely taken on Siachen to consult for risks and factors to mitigate them. In fact since civilians have been involved there has been a sharp drop on casualties on Indian side even though it is on higher ground.

In fact such is the level of safeguards being put in place, now even school kids are making trekking expeditions up the glacier from Indian side.

If somebody was assigned to ensure the safety of soldiers there, I am sure responsibility has to be fixed.

This is one way of ensuring such events do not occur in future.

Is it wrong to ask for court-martial on this site?

I don't know whats your age and qualification..But you sound low on both..I will avoid replying you.

Has anyone been found alive?

There was some hope that the avalanche buried soldiers in barracks and that strucutre could have sustained those soldiers.

Any word on that?

The army chief today to the media at skardu that we will keep up the effort even if it takes two months or a year. We will dig up the whole mountain if we have toandwill get those soldiers back

That IMO was a good statement by the chief.

Certainly that will be well-received!

Has anyone been found alive?

There was some hope that the avalanche buried soldiers in barracks and that structure could have sustained those soldiers.

Any word on that?

the probability of finding somebody alive is extremely low..I have to repeat myself that this was an ice avalanche..One of the rarest and deadliest.
As much as we all want to see all the soldiers walking out of their barracks well and alive....we have to admit that we live in the real world where laws of nature apply, and surviving after being hit by 2-5 million tons of solid ice is unnatural...Although we believe in a Higher force...Above all...The Almighty..
If the One Power Up Above wants them to survive, they will survive.

ARY showing video clips and interviews of Gyari sector. The interviewer says that the men working their still have hopes that they will find someone alive.

In my opinion full recovery is not plausible until summer thaw.. Saw a pic where guys using rotory saw to cut ice!! hope i will be wrong.
