Sri Lankan monk sets himself ablaze over cow slaughter

it is difficult for you to understand hinduism.hinduism is a combination of different philosphies, cults which sometimes may entirely be opposite to one another.as far as brahmanical texts which were written after vedas are concerned we are not supposed to sacrifice animals to god.but tribes do sacrifice bulls and dalits eat beef(who are hindus according to indian constitution).

cow is not a holy animal in buddhism. As far as my research goes buddhists of only srilanka stay away from beef as they were hindus before converting to buddhism.buddhists of all other countries eat cow.it is said back in the days of buddha even hindus used to eat cow including buddha himself.

Not in general.. Most do try to avoid beef but there is a significant number that does consume it..

If you drink the milk,it automatically means the cow is like your mom.you can refuse to drink milk,if you feel otherwise.

?

:omghaha: you know what? breast feeding is on decline and majority of kids drink this milk

so these cans are automatically becoming their mothers

Regarding this topic, ppl do all unreasonable things in the name of religion just how a negro muslim beheaded a british soldier.Buddha never preached extremism .He always suggested a middle path.buddhism doesnt forbid killing of animals for food .but at the same time it also says tht we shld treat animals kindly.but some sects of buddhism maintain tht buddha was altogether against killing any animal and they stay away from eating meat like almost all buddhist monks do now a days.

definitely an average cow's life i more worthwhile than the lives of many stupid human beings, who are better off dead than alive for the society.

Nobody is encouraging these suicides but what did you realise from this act?

what did you learn? looks like nothing.

whose family was brought into this?

Listen you extremist piece of sh$t, I have had enough of your tribe's making online threats. Fact: beef is quite popular in many parts of India and I would love to see you people take some action on ground and get your arses kicked.

the cults had been joining in modifying and twisting things according to own interests. I can argue with you with backup points and quotes from your own sacared texts. but leave it that is going to spoil the thread.

Hindu sacared stories did NOT impose any such restriction on beef eating.

does tht significant number belong to lower castes or upper castes?even in india there is a significant number of hindus(dalits who are approx 20 PERCENT OF IND) who eat beef.

I think the Sanga(Monkhood) does need to adhere to the principles of non consumption of meat.. But it's different to lay people,Buddhism always gives a choice..It does not prohibit anything or result in condemnation

Interesting :) So Indian high cast Hindus do NOT eat beef and low cast Hindus or dalits eat beef.

It seems the real and original Hindus do eat beef while the ones who had grabbed the power by hook or crook have created artificial ban

read my post carefully.i said texts which were written after vedas like smritis, upanishads, puranas etc.vedic aryan tribes were fans of cow and ox meat.

Unlike in India.. Caste is very much non existant in non hindu communities in the island.. So no there is no caste division to beef consumption

today hinduism is identified with upanishads, bhagavadgita and meditation all of which were written by brahmans.according to tht definition brahmans are real hindus and dalits are converts.

i very much doubt it.ok i will do some reading on net.when pakistanis who follow a foreign faith still clang to their caste name, how can i believe srilankans who follow ind religion dont follow caste(i know buddhism condemns casteism but so does islam and christianity)

There's no restriction to hindus in eating Beef. It's ones personal choice. And don't listen to the High class Low class thing. It's complete BS which some people are trolling here.

Caste is significant in Hindu communities especially Vellaya Jaffna Tamil community.. Caste in Sinhalese Buddhists are very much non exsistance (except maybe when it comes to arranged marriages) and ofcause Muslim and Burgher communities does not believe in it..Also note unlike Pakistani muslims,A significant number of Lankan Muslims are Moor(originally from the middle east and North Africa) So some of those Indic caste aspects does not apply to them
