Adhar is a pretty basic name.
It means 'basis' as in basis of life.

Its not a citizenship proof. Which is why it cannot be called NID. Its for direct transfer of subsidies.

But there are chances that later it can be identity card too

What is AADHAAR card? Some sort of National ID or it's specifically for availing subsidies?

It is an Indian version of Hong Kong Identity Card !

Only those below poverty level. It's more of a Identity proof/ Address proof for the rest.

So why that much difficult name? why you don't simply call it NIC (National ID Card)

we here call adhaar card as UID: Unique Identity Card

PS- Mine took me about a hour and a half but I'm yet to recive my card and dont hope to get it untill I spend some serious time and maybe some money too.
