China’s Ultimate Nightmare: Japan Armed With Nuclear Weapons

What Genesis probably meant was this is a Vietnamese syndrome, since nobody in ASEAN other than the Viets here talk about acquiring nukes.

Pen pal you should avoid getting infected with it, even though it's only some hypothesis Japan isn't gonna develop nukes. US pressured France not to deliver a reprocessing facility to South Korea in 1975 as a result the South Koreans ended the program. Now what makes you think the US will allow Japan to develop WMD under the disguise of the China threat? Surely you haven't forgotten who nuked your country, plus the North Korean threat isn't justifiable enough for US to even consider allowing Japan to develop nukes. As long Japan remember the lessons of WW2 and remain a pacifist Japan is safe, plus the Americans have you guys under its claws ;)
Yeah, every one including JP got jealous when US allows VN to enrich uranium that can help VN to make nuke in secret and in emergency case.

But JP should not compare wt VN bcs we r independence nation, we will enrich uranium wt Russian help no matter US allows VN or not.

If JP try to enrich uranium like VN, then they will get sanction and become even poorer than North Korea

Well there has been a long history of the US military storing nuclear weapons on Japanese soil. I'm sure they have already implemented a plan long ago.

Long history, really, according to who.

We want to rise peacefully but some guy just does not like that.
Some people mistaken peaceful to submissive. They mean different things.

I personally don't think Japan armed with nukes is bad for China. From China's perspective, there is no difference between Japan under US nuclear umbrella and Japan owning nukes by himself. For Japan's perspective, it has to act more responsibly rather than shielding its body behind US. And finally, it is definitely not China who will be scarified the most by the nuke spreading all over the world.

OK I'll play.

1. Japan doesn't have any domestic uranium reserves. What do you think will happen to Japan's uranium imports when people figure out you're developing nuclear weapons in clear violation of the NPT?

2. Where will Japan place its plutonium production reactors? What makes you think the reactors can't be bombed with conventional PGMs?

3. How do you protect your nuclear deterrent from a conventional first strike? Silos are fixed targets. So are airbases. Submarines eventually have to return to port. Japan doesn't have SSBNs to begin with.

4. How do you send launch codes to your imaginary submarines when your entire leadership and chain of command is eliminated in a nuclear first strike? The US has the Cheyenne Mountain Complex. China has the Underground Great Wall? Japan has...?

The US Government released documents in 1999 that nuclear weapons were stored on Iwo Jima and Chichi Jima since 1950. Plus probably other places not mentioned like Okinawa.

Any source. No mention of that, other than Japan has never stored nuclear weapons and a few that says Japan may or may not have stored Nuclear weapons.

Strategically, nukes are useless.

There are better deterrents and if a national leader is insane enough to launch nukes anyway, MAD won't stop them.

The first article says 1950s and 60s, which that part of Japan is under official US control. What are some of the sources that said US stores nuclear weapons since the handover of these islands.

It would be Americas nightmare to see Japan armed with nukes, not China.

Japan is a very small state geographically compared to the Asian mainland and China. IF Japan does attempt to obtain nukes, expect China to change the no first use policy and eliminate the Japanese nuke threat before it succeeds.

Again, Japan is a small country and dense too, if it even dreams of having an nuclear exchange war with China they had better snap out of it quick because Japan will literally get flattened under layers and layers of thick mushroom cloud; no where to hide no where to run.

But all speculation aside, the one who would be worried the most of a nuclear armed Japan would be Japan's sugar daddy 'USA', reason is obvious.

Can nuclear weapons really wipe out a country from earth? I really doubt that. Nuke is just a tool to intimidate your opponents. Once it is used, it will be not so useful as it is put there for show.

One thing is for sure. If a nuke war occurs, the smaller countries with smaller population are likely the first ones wiped out..

Well let's think about it for a bit. A country is just a large land area connected by cities and towns where the population resides. If nukes are used on every single city and large town in a specific country then yea, that 'country' would no longer exist.

And today, there are nuclear weapons hundreds of times more powerful than the ones democracy America dropped on Japan which wiped off 300,000 Japanese civilians from the face of the earth in an instant. Imagine what a nuke just 10 times more powerful could do.

China possesses thermal nuclear weapons that are several hundred times more destructive and powerful than what America dropped on Japan.
