Rohollah Faghihi, a journalist at Intekhab News in Tehran who covered the Vienna talks, summed it up best. “People here thought that things would change overnight, and they celebrated. But they have to be patient for real changes to kick in… it will be a long haul,” he said. New Delhi is well aware of how long that haul is going to be, said an official, and that’s why this visit by the Prime Minister to show that “India will be there by Iran’s side.”

“We are ready to do business with Iran in a big way… that will be a clear message from our side. This will be reiterated at all the meetings, from Supreme Leader (Ali) Khamenei to (Iranian) President (Hassan) Rouhani,” an Indian official told

This is the kind of sentiment reflecting in both the countries with larger economic interest other than dirty policies against Pakistan as some in Pakistan believes. And its true India will on Monday sign a commercial contract with Iran to build and run a strategic port on Iran's southern coast, the government said on Friday, to help it gain a foothold in Iran and win access to central Asia and Afghanistan. But Indo Iran ties are more than just about Chabahar is about 60 miles from Pakistan's Gwadar seaport which China is developing as part of a $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Gopal Baglay, a foreign ministry official in charge of Iranian ties, said India would make an initial investment of more than $200 million in the port.

Indian refiners have cleared part of the $6.4 billion owed to Iran for crude oil imports in euros through Turkey's Halkbank, three sources privy to the payment said on Saturday.
This is the first payment to Iran by India since the lifting of Western sanctions against the Persian Gulf nation earlier this year and comes just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit beginning on Sunday.
Today India has changed its face at global arena

Am personally happy and glad that Prime minister modi has taken this initiative to visit Iran .Engage with a country which will soon will be a key player in the region in days to come . Indo Iran ties are very crucial for development of India and our sphere of influence in central-west Asia and middle east,Especially our policies towards engaging with our landlocked ally Afghanistan. Iran is situated in a region of west Asia and Africa . As we have larger strategic & major economic interest as this trip comes at a backdrop of ministers of GOI visited many countries in the region very frequently to bolster our ties with all these major regional players.

India's relationship with Iran has seen highs and as well as lows due to inaction and assertiveness shown by previous government. Iranian leadership still holds some reservations when it come to trusting India where real actions are expected . Modi led BJP government has tried its level best so far to change this mind set not only with Iran but with all our economic and strategic partners all around the world . India has taken aggressive active foreign policies recently.

As Central Asia gets de-Europeanized, there is a major power rivalry afoot. The region is already getting swamped by the Chinese as well as by extremist forces. China has pushed for the interlocking of economic and security interests in Central Asia. It has finally broken a century and half of Russian monopoly in the region. It is China that now controls the flow of goods and services to and from the region.

China’s presence and influence have not invoked any “Great Game” fear. Its presence in the region has not elicited any tangible Russian opposition. Nor has it stirred any containment by the United States and India. Instead, China has come to enjoy an air of respectability in the region. Central Asian Republics are excited about China’s “One Road One Belt” (OBOR) initiative; they hope that it would revive the legendary Silk Route marvel. The West has questioned Russia’s economic agenda in Central Asia, but remains silent on China’s drive.

India shared a common history and culture with Eurasia - once bound by the Silk and Spice Trade Routes. Clearly, reconnecting these points would foster better economic relations and improved political ties. Security issues are also getting more and more intertwined. Only Ladakh can become the launching pad for India’s Eurasian outreach. And only sound connectivity can make India’s participation in BRICS and SCO more robust. Such a proposal could also constitute a counterpoise to China’s call upon India to join the Silk Route.

When china spreading its tentacles African Arabian central Asian regions India cant just watch hands folded and say "OH WHAT CAN WE DO" . You have to have some kind of a plan and Iran is critical for us because Iran is very large ,well educated ,vast industrial country and i think its much of a stable country in the region with constant foreign policies .If i could look 5 to 10 years down the line i can see Iran as much more powerful countries and stable than many other nations in the region.

In late 90s one of the critical factors was technology.Today we have many different factors which drives strategic ties . Today stability needs for economic prosperity and far right call to safe guard the ties and our assets .

We yet to have stakes for Iran so far. But today i believe India has taken a step forward and offered to invest some 20 billion US . Now this could be a major factor to have stronger ties with Iran in future and some sort of moves would be made regarding local issues in the region like IRAN ISRAEL SAUDI relation. India must uphold its motive. Which is prosperity and not war mongering . Saudi Arabia and Israel today plays very vital role in nation economic development of India and growth of military and Geo political powers .India should make all nations clear that India follows independent foreign policies and like to deal with each countries bilaterally on its own merits .

Finally what about Pakistan factors in India Iran ties . To be frank it is not an significant factor at all. Because We have many other kinds of interests with the region. India’s reliance on energy imports could climb to 90%, which is an unnerving statistic for the country’s energy security. Its energy demand has almost doubled since 2000 and one in five of its 240 million people still lack access to electricity, which means its appetite for fuel will only accelerate. Couple this with the ‘Make in India’ programme – plans to transform the country into a manufacturing behemoth – and Iran’s oil export market seems to be onto a sure thing. The impact of the revitalized Iran-India relationship is already being felt. Iranian crude heading to India surged from 190,000 b/d in January this year to 540,000 b/d in March, potentially displacing imports from Iraq and Nigeria, according to market intelligence firm Genscape.

And although Iran is suffering in the current low oil price environment, the blow might be somewhat alleviated by the fact that every dollar drop in the price helps reduce the Indian government’s costs by up to $1 billion.

This financial boost will only strengthen India’s plans to become a refining superpower by 2025, which could be helped by many of the refineries’ ability to process Iranian-grade crude.

The problem has been our other kinds of international engagements in the past made our relationship with Iran little rough . This is an opportunity for us change this mindset .The right man for this job is none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his team ...

All the best !!! Modi In Iran for better ties ,growth for all .Mutual respect peace !!!

Pakistan Maritime Boundary....:nhl_checking:

I guess you know we import lot of oil and gas from that route so, we already know how to navigate in those waters. And in addition to that you must know that being granted rights over sea bed for exploration of minerals and all that doesn't mean that you can stop international navigation on waters above that shelf.

Those waters belong to Pakistan and is patroled by our navy. It is our choice at present to allow Indian navigation through our waters. As you build hostile infrastructure around us, you all can say bye-bye to the priviledge we allow you.

The American and Israeli friends of India will take care of this. Question will be is Modi going to lecture the Iranian's on behalf of his Israeli and American buddies or build a friendly relationship with that country. Is he going to play the "good cop" part of the act to Israeli/USA "bad cop" routine?

You just can't stop any traffic over the shelf. Your rights are limited to explorations only.

And that port is just for commercial purpose, no military use.

Are you dumb? You cant just travel through our waters if we decide to not allow you to.

Learn maritime Law101.

It has been explained to you so many times that either you pakistanis are retarded from birth or you are willfully ignorant.

Don't worry we will make sure that our oil and gas exploration team get proper safety in the form of warships from some international bully....

Get this inside your head its called economics zone not some bully zone....

 Should I post the pic of Nawaz with Obama ?? You people are the one who gave US the access to sit just across Iranian borders so that US can send drones to spy on them.Nuff said.
Yes you can. There is a differance. US relations with Iran are governed by the Israeli factor. The intense hatred by Israel of Iran is what drives US policy toward Iran. Thus Iran/Israeli relations are centred on crux of what drives Iran policy in US.

On the other hand US policy with Pakistan is entirely out of Israel factor. In fact Pak earns considerable ire for not even recognizing that state.

In other words Israel is where the fire of anti Iranism burns most. India is knee deep in that country. Here have look at the survey below. PM Netanayu would love to wipe Iran off the map of the world and he does not hide this fact. Israeli public agree with him and here is Modi smooching with No 1 Iran baiter. 92% of Israel has negative perception of Iran. This says it all. This is a country that actively wants to bomb Iran. Netanayu is the lead guy on this.
