China Invites International Collaboration on its Space Station Program through UN

It will be very interesting to see how China is going to use her upcoming space station for those developing countries, who may not have their own space dreams otherwise. The fact that China invites other countries to join via UN, is very interesting in itself. That is called "inclusive"! No more "Elite Club" type of BS anymore!

Exactly.

The elitist nature of space must be eliminated. Developing countries should definitely be given an invite as they might not have enough money or technology/expertise to develop on their own.

Just like China exporting technology its self-sufficient in to developing countries (which West refuse to share unless you're a puppet to the West), they would love to see their fellow countrymen in space.

Hopefully it will inspire their people.

Well the ISS has 15 countries (Canada, Japan, the Russian Federation, the United States, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) ...that is pretty good. You think China will top that number?

Swedish astronaut on ISS.

Hardly any developing countries in that club.

I want to see people from Latin America, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle East invited to the Chinese space station.

Its not about Finance. China can finance 10 space hubs by themselves. And still has the technology to do so.

But its amusing by its method to gain international legitimacy through UN and its challenge to rival the ISS. Its a good thing that an Asian power is trying to rise upto ISS.

For the record, India is not joining ISS neither the Chinese station.

China sure knows how to use international structure and organization such UN for it own benefit , why we will always let other to run the show :sarcastic:. And talk about Asia, China and India could have a lot of scientific cooperation and bring benefit of both nations but we have divergence on our geopolitical stands, I don't think there is possibility in the short coming future...maybe after we settle the border issue and clear out some frictions then we can sing "Chini Indi Blai blai " again and go back to revive our millennium friendship.

You definitely sounded like the chief of ISRO.

Those are only the member countries of the ISS. Other countries have flown up too when the Space Shuttle dropped by.

I believe Russia and the US have lifted passengers from 36 countries up into space over the years (not all to the ISS). Including people from places you mentioned.

BTW We are approaching 350 US citizens having traveled into space (currently ~346..with 12 having walked on the moon)

When the ISS go down on earth, all these nations will be disbanded, there is no sign that these nations are willing or capable to finance ISS v2.0. But China will probably be the only nation to operate Space station.

That could happen...but the ISS is almost 20 years old. Probably good until 2025. By then there may be a new station built to support the Mars stuff. Countries will probably be interested.

Maybe and maybe not, it's all about money, not a lot of nations can afford to undertake or take part of US's space adventure unless they're convincing to get something in return.

Chinese space station will be open to all countries. Not just 15 developed countries like ISS.

I know you want to keep your eyes closed to the truth but the ISS is open to more than those 14 countries.

We have ISS. No need for this for any european nation
Nasa can't wait to reitre it....they got stuck because of commitment to other nations. They will leave as soon as possible.

China is the new comer in space tech, and it has long way to go to be anywhere near US or Russian, but they are working hard, very hard. Rejecting China's desire to participate in ISS program may eventually proved to be a shortsighted decision on US part. Chinese are at their best if they can't buy what they need.
