Vietnam want to be friendly to India, but if you think you have an upper hand in military, you are overevaluated yourselves and underevaluated Vietnamese. And many Indian behave like that, at least on this forum.
Vietnamese in general, for many historical reasons, do not like the Chinese expansion policy and always prepared to fight them. But that do not mean we have to rely on India for protection. US, maybe.

India has no presence in Vietnam. We have no scope or even plans to have a presence in your neighbourhood. If you're looking at us for protection you're going to be disappointed.

I do not see that indians have anything but admiration for the vietnamese here, may be you need to have a relook.

If any indians are talking of getting a naval base in vietnam, its for India's interests and not for india offering to protect vietnam.

I've been to vietname twice and i know how proud they are of their achievements, in fact even i'm impressed with the pace of their infra development. India Vietnam relations have always been good, have no clue where you see indian hostility

Well said. India itself needs US protection. Why offer to protect another when you cannot even protect yourself. Indians in here are over estimating their capability. Its rediculous to hear them talking about offering protection to Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Korea when US is already providing the balance. The proposal to offer protection to Vietnam is just idiotic. Vietnam successfully resisted Chinese incursion in 1979 where as India lost completely in 1962 to China. If a war break out between Vietnam and India in a central location such as Burma or Thailand, the winner is easily the Vietnam. You fanbuis has no logic nor common sense.

1962 was little more than a border skirmish, comparing that to the Vietnam war is like comparing 1971 with Kargil.

What a moron.So are you suggesting that India should ask Vietnam to open up bases in Vietnam for Indian occupation? In modern age, if a country has a base in another country, is to protect thatcountry. For example, US has bases in S Korea and Japan to protect them. It also serve the interest of the US as well but it also must serve to protect the host country. Common sense, people.

I was talking about chinese incursion into vietnam in 1979 as compare to 1962, which the north Indian plane lay bare to the Chinese army. Read up on history of another nation before you comment.

The US would still not able to win a war if its objective is not clear. Look at Afghanistan today, the US will not do well as it has no clear object. The enemy that will defeat the US are the politicians who has no ideas about conducting a war.

As for Vietnam war, I certain US will win if it decide not to just invade north vietname, but bomb China as well.

Indian army was totally defeated in 1962 while Vietnam was able to resist the PLA in 1979. That is a known fact. As a result, it should be the Vietcong that protect India than the other way around.
