JUST IN: An Astravahini class auxiliary ship has sunk outside Visakhapatnam harbour.

One person has been killed, four are missing and 23 have been rescued. Full-scale search and rescue operations are on, say Navy sources.

An auxiliary ship is designed to operate in any number of roles supporting combatant ships and other naval operations.
Auxiliaries are not primary combatants, although they may have some limited combat capacity, usually of a self-defense nature.
