Azerbaijan and Pakistan JF-17 negotiations
Representatives of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) said at IDEAS-18 that all existing problems related to the export of the plane to Azerbaijan were resolved and the tests of the JF-17 Block II configuration requested by Azerbaijan were completed. The Azerbaijani Air Force had been waiting for this version to be used by the Pakistan Air Force for some time. The Block II version, which has been used by the Pakistan Air Force for a while, has proven itself after its use.

One of the major advantages of the Block II version is its ability to refuel in air. The Block II model also features improved avionics, improved load carrying capacity, data connectivity and electronic warfare. The Azerbaijani side is currently reviewing both Chinese and Italian production AESA radars for use in the JF-17.

How many jets have been ordered?

I would imagine Italian AESA might get featured in JF17 models down the line being all modular design I always believe it is good to have variety

May be "50" birds with Italian AESA I would be ok just to see stuff in action

Pakistan already does enjoys great relations with Italian Radar firms , and it would be great step to bring a Italian Radar in mix as well

Would be nice to offer options to clients

a) JF17- Block II with Chinese Radar (Local/Export)
b) JF17- Block II with Italian Radar (Local/Export)

Of course JF17 - Block III is Primarily used by Pakistani Airforce (or in future)

we should introduce ban on export of Block III

Azerbaijan is too close to Israel and India is close to Israel

we could end up back firing here

max. should be Block II
It doesn't matter. It's not just the tech but the man behind the machine. Indians and israelis know us

You aware like, all of the critical technological inputs are from China right? The same China who is also buddy-buddy with Israel and the same China who has conducted multiple overt and covert deals with Israel.

Yep. If anything, it'd be Israel who might be worried about its tech leaking to Pakistan (and harming India). So, if the Azeris go for the Grifo-E, I think they'll likely integrate Turkish AAM and AShMs to it. Not only that, but it would be on their dollar, so that might open up a new avenue for the PAF in terms of weaponizing its own JF-17s.

Some day wanted to write up a piece on JF17 as following it since 1996 . Just to save people time purely commercially speaking JF-17 promotional team should be sacked 10 years ago .The plus point of JF17 development by Air force is also the main negative point from marketing point of view .Pilots are breed to fly and kill not Sales .My heart cries when we are still in process of negotiation with countries like Azerbaijan/Turkey/KSA/Qatar for sales .

The air force did the best by taking over this project. I think it was a great idea and successful for Pakistan to partner with the plane it had to buy to meet its low budget. As I said in another topic before, it is also a great choice for low budget African countries, but the countries you count will never want this plane. You don't have to blame the army.
