Ref : BDL/104/BD-PR/06 PRESS RELEASE Date : 01 April, 2016 BDL TEST FIRES INDIGENOUSLY DEVELOPED ANTI- TANK GUIDED MISSILE WITH ADVANCE GUIDANCE SYSTEM Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has indigenously developed and test fired recently, an advanced Wireless Anti-Tank Missile with RF Guidance at Babina ranges. RF System with EW protection was used to send the guidance command to the missile. The system has the capability of being remotely launched and piloted from a safe distance equalling the advantages of expensive third generation ATGMs. This is the 2nd Missile developed by BDL indigenously. BDL, had earlier, in Jan 2016, successfully test fired its f irst indigenously developed ATGM named, Amogha -1(Range 2.8 Km.) With the successful completion of the developmental trials of these two new systems, BDL has entered into the era of development of new generation short range missile systems both for moving and stationary land targets.

Why are we having redundant development programs.

Unless it is Man portable, how is this different from Nag?

There is no "one fit" solution. The NAG is a fire and forget top attack ATGM with its own seeker and a range of about 4km. These guided missiles are less sophisticated but FAR cheaper and more readily producable that could be churned out at greater rates. The NAG is right up there with other 3rd gen ATGMs like the Spike and Javelin but these guided missiles are more akin to the Milan or TOW 2nd gen ATGMs that still have their place.

Why send a Ferrari to be an Airport shuttle in Mumbai traffic when you could use a TATA Nano with the same results. For soft skin targets these low cost guided missiles are more than enough. For deafeating heavy armour at longer ranges the NAG is the weapon of choice.

There is no open source for the missile.....
I think these are the Man portable ATGM.
Nag is not Man portable.....
Max. Range 2.8km and Max weight 18kg....
Good development.

Some news goes unreported these days which is fine by me- less talk, more action.
