Beza to start skills training with first batch of 2,000

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) will start the skill development program with 2,000 people primarily selected from the affected areas around the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN).

BEZA Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun said that the training program for 2,000 people will be conducted very soon with priority given to the affected people around Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN).

"Later, under the Skills Voucher Program, 20,000 people will be trained and employed according to the skilled manpower needs of investors in various economic zones," he said this at the first workshop on "Skill Development for Sustainable Business Management in Economic Zones" at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Sunday.

BEZA will develop and employ 22,000 skilled human resources in seven economic zones under the Private Investment and Digital Entrepreneurship (PRIDE) project.

It was discussed in the workshop that BEZA will primarily focus on several industries for developing skilled manpower including garments and garment supporting industries, agro-products, agro-processing, paint and chemical, paper and paper products, integrated textile, plastics, leather and leather products, light engineering (including auto-parts and bicycles), shipbuilding, pharmaceutical products, automobile, power, food and beverage, and solar park.

The seven economic zones where BEZA would provide employment of these skilled workforce are– Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN), Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (Japanese EZ), Private Economic Zone Meghna, Abdul Monem, Bay, Sirajganj and Kishoreganj.

Different government organizations including National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), Bangladesh Technical Education Board will cooperate in this, Yusuf Harun said.

The World Bank has been providing a loan of Tk4,347 crore for the Private Investment and Digital Entrepreneurship project at the country's largest Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar. Human resource development is a part of the project with an estimated cost of around Tk127 crore.

The project started in 2021 with a duration till 2025.

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) is organizing the first workshop on the 22,000 human resources development under the Private Investment and Digital Entrepreneurship project (PRIDE) in the capital on Sunday.

BEZA Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun told The Business Standard that a skill development training centre will be set up in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, the biggest economic zone. All the workers who want to work in the economic zones will be trained in that centre.

About 22,000 workers will be trained and made employable under the PRIDE project.

The World Bank has been providing a loan of Tk4,347 crore for the Private Investment and Digital Entrepreneurship project at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar. Human resource development is a part of the project with an estimated cost of around Tk127 crore. The project started in 2021 with a duration till 2025.

In the Sunday's workshop, representatives of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza), Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida), National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) and other organisations will be present.

The objective of the Prid project is to promote private investment, job creation and environmental sustainability.

According to BEZA sources, the training will be job-oriented. Demands will be sought from the entrepreneurs and training will be provided according to the type of workers they need. As a result, those who will receive the training will get jobs.

In the workshop, discussion will be held on how the training will be conducted. BEZA believes that the suggestions of the participants will make a significant contribution to the management and implementation of this project.

Nasreen Afroz, executive chairman of NSDA told TBS that NSDA will coordinate and provide the trained manpower needed in the economic zones. All kinds of skill-related training, especially coordination responsibility of the training up to 360 hours will be taken by the NSDA.

"We have 360 training institutes registered with us for the skill development training centre," she said.

BEZA will notify later on how to apply for training under the PRIDE project.

Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited has been setting up a modern paint manufacturing factory at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar.

Appreciating such a project, Berger Paints Managing Director Rupali Chowdhury told TBS that they welcome any skill development initiative.

"Now a survey would be good. Then we will understand what kind of skilled workers we need in any sector," she said.

The country's largest industrial city, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN), is being constructed in an area of 30,000 acres of land in Mirsarai and Sitakunda upazilas of Chattogram and Sonagazi upazila of Feni.

The BEZA is working toward establishing 100 economic zones across the country by 2030.

The goal is to create employment for one crore people. The BEZA also expects to produce and export products worth $40 billion annually in and from these economic zones.

Skill training is the correct path to produce employable young men. This is the way to national economic development.

What’s with these names?
First the good for nothing opposition names their project "rainbow nation"

Now these nincompoop bureaucrats names their project "pride "

WTH?

It may be because these wage-thieves have no project at all. So, the bureaucrat thieves are saying something and the news reporters something else.

After all, this is our Golden Bangladesh where talents are born every hour. But, they are unable to run the country.

BNP has figured - being "ghey" may be a "super-defensible" approach.

They will be hiring ladyboys next to lead their demonstrations. Will make for great PR internationally....

Police will be confused and defenseless.

No wonder Jamaat left on their own accord.
However, Islami Oikkya Jote behayas are staying on on the "rainbow qualition" - that's "national unity" right there. @VikingRaider

Even Donald Lu did not bother to meet BNP.

On a serious note, BNP should ditch all the communist and religious parties and put new, polished faces like Andaleeve and Rumin as the front men of the new coalition - Mirza Fakhrul cannot inspire his own shadow to vote for BNP.

Well they will bring in fresh faces for sure.

On the Gono-odhikar Porishod side, I still think Mr. Kibria needs to become more populist and practice "Jwalamoee" speeches, even if scripted. And Noor needs to appear more mature, and polish his outward appearances as well as what he says so he gets more credibility. This is not 1971 anymore.

If these two parties concentrate on presenting the main issues instead of the baker's dozen of "chhutka-chhatka" parties, the coalition in sum will have more of a case people can vote for.

Donald Lu did not overtly meet with BNP, but let's not make the assumption that they do not maintain contacts covertly, they ALWAYS do. Haater Paanch haatey rakhey.

This only means that they do not want to embarass Hasina and want to see what she does next. They have patience - but Hasina better not test it.

Well, people in BD do not like Kibria-type of talented people. This is the reason why BD remains at the lowest rung of the world countries.

VP Noor speaks hot, he is also sincere but he lacks the kind of economics knowledge Kibria has.

Kibria cannot run a country but he can be a very good finance Minister with his background filled with IMF experience. He will get matured in the coming years.

I want VP Noor to get maturity during the next decade. If he has abilities, he may be given a small portfolio in the govt where he learns and gets matured. One day, I hope, he will be a national asset unless he slips away from sincerity and patriotism.

BNP isn't future of Bangladesh @Destranator Bhai ! It's time to broaden our mind and look beyond BAL and BNP !

However there might be a return of 1986 general election .

Please keep in mind that BNP is BNP of later days ( 1991 and onward) not because Ziaur Rahman who ruled only 2 years!

But BNP is BNP of later days and won 1991 election because they boycotted the election of 1986!

While mighty BAL participated election under fascist Ershad regime!

I think BNP will take part in next election under the current regime ( same as BAL did in 1986 ) and Gano Odhikar Porishod will boycott next election!

However other thing can happen , since there is actually no way to know what's happening behind curtain! So nothing can be said with certainty!

It's time for us to change. Things shouldn't be like past.

Reza kibria is neither founder of Gano Odhikar Porishod nor he is a demagogue!

IMHO he is more like Sohrawardi ( and unlike Bhasani) !

However It's not only VP Nur who is demagogue give statement for Gano Odhikar Porishod! But there are others like , Rashed Khan , Tariq Rahman , Bin Yamin Molla and few others , can't name at once. It's a good thing @Bilal9 Bhai. Let's hope for a Bangladeshi politics that's free from personality cult!

Let more politicians come from young people, who can at least raise their voice against fascism!

And one more thing , almost everything has been scripted in Bangladesh from the beginning! But still this time this script should be a sustainable script!

So I think there should be no hurry!

I am not saying BNP is the solution - I was suggesting what BNP should do to remain relevant.

Having said that, it is in national interests that we have multiple credible oppositions to BAL - Hasina will retire eventually which will lead to BAL's decline. I do not want to see a power vacuum taken advantage of by Hifazat/Jamaat types - our kamlakind will vote for these clowns (reason why I say we are not fit for democracy at this moment).

I want democracy put on hold until credible oppositions gain enough strength to take on BAL at grassroots level across the country.
