Egypt has signed an agreement to acquire two German-built Type 209 attack submarines, according to an announcement Friday by the new head of the Egyptian Navy, Osama Ahmed el-Gendy.

“Egypt will not allow anyone to enter its territorial waters,” el-Gendy said in his first public statement since taking office. ”Our Navy is in good condition, and at the highest level of operational readiness.”

El-Gendy also said that four US-built FMC missile ships would join the Egyptian fleet in 2013.

Why do we Pakistanis always bring in the card of oil and gas and natural resources?

The biggest resource for any nation is it's citizens, and all countries have it. Does Pakistan use it effectively?

There are many countries who have less natural resources than we have and yet are far more advanced and prosperous and safe than Pakistan. The countries which have no natural resources and are more advanced and better than Pakistan what do they do?

But we (our government) does not learn anything from them, for learning brain is required and fortunately all our leaders in parliaments are brainless 420.

I think it's because the overwhelming majority belong to one ethnicity, speak one language as well as almost all Muslims there are Sunnah.

in continuation to the above this is just one example

South Korea

In 1945 the adult literacy rate was estimated at 22 percent; by 1970 adult literacy was 87.6 percent and, by the late 1980s, sources estimated it at around 93 percent.

Having almost no natural resources and always suffering from overpopulation in its small territory, which deterred continued population growth and the formation of a large internal consumer market, South Korea adapted an export-oriented economic strategy to fuel its economy, and in 2010, South Korea was the seventh largest exporter and tenth largest importer in the world

In 1980, the South Korean GDP per capita was $2,300, about one-third of nearby developed Asian economies such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan. Since then, South Korea has advanced into a developed economy to eventually attain a GDP per capita of $30,000 in 2010, almost thirteen times the figure thirty years ago. The whole country's GDP increased from $88 billion to $1,460 billion in the same time frame.

Area - Total 100,210 km2 (109th)
Water (%) 0.3

Population - 2012 estimate 50,000,000 (25th)
Density 491/km2 (21st)

GDP (PPP) 2011 estimate - Total $1.556 trillion (12th)
Per capita $31,753 (26th)
GDP (nominal) 2011 estimate - Total $1.163 trillion (15th)
Per capita $23,749 (32nd)

Pakistan

Area - Total 796,095 km2 (36th)
Water (%) 3.1

Population - 2011 estimate 177,100,000 (6th)
Density 214.3/km2 (55th)

GDP (PPP) 2011 estimate - Total $488.580 billion
Per capita $2,787
GDP (nominal) 2011 estimate - Total $210.566 billion
Per capita $1,201

The two important cities of Japan were destroyed completely in 1945, and Japan was devastated industrially, they started from scratch.

Pakistan was created from scratch in 1947. Where are they now and where are we? Now the Population of Japan in 2011 is less by around 52 million compared to Pakistan's, this difference is not a big factor if you compare the size of Pakistan with that of Japan as Pakistan is almost more than twice the size of Japan.

As mentioned earlier the area of Japan is approximately less than half the area of Pakistan. They did not have any Aladdin's magical lamp that they rubbed and out came a genie and they asked for a prosperous country. No country has such lamp.

Natural calamities: we have floods and earthquakes not as often as the strong earthquakes that occur in Japan, not to mention tsunami, cyclone, hurricane that occur in Japan (being an island), they have adapted to the natural calamities by taking preventive measure. What are the preventive measure taken by our governments against just two natural calamities i.e. floods and earthquakes?

Below are statistics for Japan from Wikipedia:

Population
- 2011 estimate 127,960,000[5] (10th)
- 2010 census 128,056,026[6]
- Density 337.1/km2 (36th)
873.1/sq mi

GDP (PPP) 2011 estimate
- Total $4.396 trillion[7] (4th)
- Per capita $34,362[7] (25th)

GDP (nominal) 2011 estimate
- Total $5.855 trillion[7] (3rd)
- Per capita $45,774[7] (18th)

Area
- Total 377,944 km2 [4](62nd)
145,925 sq mi
- Water (%) 0.8

Can someone arrange an appointment with the politicians and show them this thread as sending a copy of the link of this thread is to no avail as they do not know how to use the Internet or computer.

Japan has very few natural resources, and only about a quarter of the land is suitable for agricultural purposes. Forestry is important, and about 65% of the land area is used for forestry. However, the country uses as much as it produces, with high demand for wood and wood products. Prior to the war, it was a significant producer of rice, but that changed after the war, with the shift towards manufacturing.

Japan has no significant mineral resources. Because of its proximity to the ocean, and the fact that it is an island, fish is regarded as one of its natural resources.

A significant natural resource would be Japan's education system and labour force. These are one of the reasons for Japan's economic success. Most of Japan's supplies are imported due to the lack of natural resources on the island.

Japan does not have sufficient natural energy resources for its own needs. It's the world's largest importer of coal and liquefied natural gas, and the second largest importer of oil.
