According to a report issued by the National Tourist Administration, China has become the third-largest tourism market in the world. Total income from inbound and outbound tourism for the five years leading up to 2010, totals six trillion yuan. (US$ 850 billions)

1. France 6.8 trillion yuan
2. Switchland 6.2 trillion yuan
3. China 6.0 trillion Yuan
4. USA 5.6 trillion Yuan
5. UK 4.3 trillion Yuan

Increasing tourism can be a massive economic multiplier effect for our whole economy.

As a side effect, it will also help to increase our "soft power" which is currently lacking.

We are quite close to the top spot already, if we can keep increasing the tourism revenue then it should only take a short while to reach the number one position.

As China continues to grow, more and more people will be able to go and visit countries abroad. The rest of the world will be more exposed to Chinese therefore be more curious about our country and culture. This is a good thing and can generate a lot of interests and tourism for our country. I wouldn't be a least bit surprised if China climbs and become the second later on in the year.

i have been to Beijing, shanghai, yantai, penglai.....china has really managed to hold on to its tourist attractions. my experience in china was very good, with friendly people around. no problem.
