The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council will now impose a tariff of 15 percent on 120 products imported from the United States, as well as a tariff of 25 percent on eight U.S. imports including pork, according to a statement from the ministry’s website.

The statement said it was a countermeasure in response to the March 8th move by U.S. President Donald Trump to levy U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from China. As of March 23rd, the United States is imposing a 25-percent tariff on steel imports, and a 10-percent tariff on aluminum.

The ministry said in its statement that this action violated World Trade Organization rules, and caused serious damage to China’s interests.

China’s new tariffs are meant to balance the losses caused by the U.S. actions, the statement said.

The statement said China advocates and supports a multilateral trade system and that it’s suspension of tariff concessions are meant to safeguard China’s interests using WTO rules.

It's not a lot but it's a start.

President Trump embarked Thursday on the sharpest trade confrontation with China in nearly a quarter-century, moving toward imposing tariffs on $60 billion in Chinese goods and limiting China’s freedom to invest in the U.S. technology industry.

The Chinese government fired back hours later, threatening to hit $3 billion in U.S. goods with tariffs.

60B vs 3B as of now.

You are an Indian. You really don't know the wisdom of Chinese people.
The good play is still behind it

The United States is poised to impose tariffs on $60 billion of Chinese goods.
China levies a $3 billion tax on American goods.
Tariffs on $60 billion of goods will not exceed 180(30%), or $6 billion(10%).
China can import agricultural products from other countries.Chinese goods are competitive all over the world.
American goods,LOL
I saw American business groups come to China to apologize.Did you see the Chinese business group go to America to apologize?
I think the merchant's wisdom is better than yours.

US farmers are worried, very worried because once the China market is lost, it's very hard to get it back. China can easily increase import of soybeans from South America for example. Agricultural products are only just the beginning, step by step the punch will hurt more until the US falls down :D

Because agriculture products are already low margins. You hit them with 15% tariff and thats painful. But it's only a start. Next is cars and planes.

The Chinese government’s newly announced tariff list is a retaliation for the steel and aluminum tariffs announced by the Trump administration in early March, not for the 25% that Trump Tariff commitments in late March which plans to impose on Chinese imports up to $60 billion. This means that Beijing may make a tougher response in the future.

I seriously hope Trump knows what he is doing.
Maybe he does. Did you ever ask yourself why Trump imposed tariffs this year - in the middle of an economic boom - rather than last year, when the U.S. economy was much more dicey?

A trade war?

Trump has been growing up as a son of a wealthy businessman,

whereas Xi has been growing up fighting to survive in countryside, and was piss-poor...

who will prevail in such a war, I wonder.

60B vs 3B as of now.

Try get your storyline straight instead of Anglo-American MSM coolaid.

Trump's 60B is open to half-a-year-long consultation, meaning not a single $ has been implemented yet, perhaps never will be.

On the other hand, China's 3B was implemented this morning, every $ of them, targeting at US's earlier equivalent tariffs on steel & aluminium, not on that 60B pie in the sky.

If Trump tries to go on ahead of part of this 60B in the near future which I seriously doubt, China will then start to get more serious with killer apps such as tariffs on soybeans, Intel, Apple, Boeing, Amazon, GM, Hollywood, Starbucks, McD, KFC... heck, there're so many low-hanging juicy fruits to pick from...

Just ask yourself who has the advantage in a trade war: the country with a trade deficit or a trade surplus? No one will win a trade war, of course. The question who will it hurt more? China or USA? We shall see.

The article says China is threatening, but you say it has already implemented it? What's the source of your information, or are you just speculating?

Well, I do hope you understand what does a past tense mean:

"China on Monday retaliated against Donald Trump’s taxes on imported steel and aluminium with its own tariffs on a series of products from the United States, including meat, fruit and wine"
