In a major ideological shift, the Darul Uloom at Deoband has advised against multiple marriages, a common act under Islamic law.

Replying to the query of a married man, who wanted to wed a second time, the institution said having one wife was 'more Indian', as well as logical in modern times. The man has two children from his first marriage.

"According to Shariah, it is lawful to keep two wives at the same time. But it is generally not acceptable in Indian customs," Darul Ifta, the online fatwa department of the famous Sunni seminary, said in its reply.

"Here in India, it is like inviting hundreds of problems. Moreover, the husband generally cannot do justice and cannot maintain equality between two wives. Hence, it is better to have only one wife as the Quran has said. You should discard the idea of a second marriage; otherwise you would feel sorry."

We're not surprised. Many believe that Deoband has close link with the RAW.

Why because giving good advise which can save many families getting destroy ...
Any way are you listing to them still....

There are two verses in Quran regarding marriage:

1. You will never be able to do perfect justice between wives even if it is your ardent desire, so do not incline too much to one of them so as to leave the other hanging. And if you do justice, and do all that is right and fear Allâh by keeping away from all that is wrong, then Allâh is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (4:129).

This verse discourages polygamy, on the basis that humans by nature are biased.

2. And if you fear that you cannot act equitably towards orphans, then marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four; but if you fear that you will not do justice (between them), then (marry) only one or what your right hands possess; this is more proper, that you may not deviate from the right course (4:3).

This verses allows polygamy with conditions; only for the welfare of the orphans, marry their mothers so that they become your children, hence, family members.

If we take both verses together, then polygamy is allowed only when the just care of orphans is involved; not otherwise.

Well explained! There is common myth that muslims can have as many wives as they want but no one really knows these conditions.

I ask you : does it say marry the orphans or marry the mothers of orphans???

I think it says marry the orphans.

Quran Nisa Surah 4:6

Sahih International
And test the orphans [in their abilities] until they reach marriageable age. Then if you perceive in them sound judgement, release their property to them. And do not consume it excessively and quickly, [anticipating] that they will grow up. And whoever, [when acting as guardian], is self-sufficient should refrain [from taking a fee]; and whoever is poor - let him take according to what is acceptable. Then when you release their property to them, bring witnesses upon them. And sufficient is Allah as Accountant.

An orphan doesn't have to be a child! But what if an orphan woman is widowed/divorced with very young children and there is nobody around to take care of them?

And they request from you, [O Muhammad], a [legal] ruling concerning women. Say, " Allah gives you a ruling about them and [about] what has been recited to you in the Book concerning the orphan women (Arabic word NISA meaning women) to whom you do not give what is decreed for them - and [yet] you desire to marry them - and concerning the oppressed among children and that you maintain for orphans [their rights] in justice." And whatever you do of good - indeed, Allah is ever Knowing of it. (4:127)

Now, if the Hindus want to go into the marriageable age, there is the requirement of mental maturity for marriage.

And test the orphans [in their abilities] until they reach marriageable age (The Arabic word used here is 'Balagho' that means maturiy). Then if you perceive in them sound judgement (That means mental maturity), release their property to them.
