The first Iranian supermarket in Venezuela opened its doors in Caracas on Wednesday, in an inauguration ceremony attended by the Iranian ambassador.

The supermarket will sell food and other basic goods shipped from Iran. In recent months, Tehran has also shipped gasoline as well as ingredients to help the South American country restart its own oil refineries, amid a years-long economic crisis and shortages.

US President Donald Trump's administration has imposed heavy sanctions on both countries in recent years.

And the USA reaction...
US Blasts Venezuelan-Iranian ‘Alliance of Pariah States’ as Iran Opens First Supermarket in Caracas

The new grocery store, which features over 2,000 products from Iran, was made possible after the Islamic Republic sent half a dozen cargo ships carrying fuel, food, medical supplies and spare parts for Venezuela’s oil industry to the South American nation last month, in defiance of US pressure.

US acting assistant secretary for the US State Department’s bureau for Western Hemisphere affairs Michael Kozak expressed irritation over the opening of the first Iranian supermarket in Venezuela.

“I would be surely surprised if Venezuela is able to obtain much benefit from Iran,” Kozak said, speaking to reporters on Thursday. “Iran is willing to play around, is willing to sell stuff to Venezuela when Venezuela really does not have the money to be buying very much,” he added.

Calling the supermarket’s opening a sign of an “alliance of pariah states,” Kozak suggested that “Iran is not going to save Venezuela from the situation it has put itself in,” and warned that “it does put itself in a more dangerous situation by playing these games.”

In my opinion it's a good movement by Iran, when people hears that BRICS or ALBA do a deal between them of thousand millions dollars it means nothing to common people.

But when you enter in a supermarket of another country or see the television of another country (like HispanTV), you can "feel" better these deals between countries.

anyone there even have enough money to buy groceries ?

show us the inside of these supermarkets and what price a price of canned beans is going for in the local currency lol.

most of those ships probably full of refinery repair gear and not food items.

Iran have enough problems with US anyway, should probably stay out of Venezuela.

Venezuela is like Soviet Union, people has money, but they have shortage.

It's hard to translate local currency to dollars, because there is a black market, and the legal market doesnt work well.

I guess another alternate to the already established west couldn't get here quick enough.
