A Gopalganj teacher has been accused of sexually harassing a seventh-grade student.

Miraj Hossain Molla, assistant teacher of the social science department at Korpara Bohumukhi High School, was detained by the police on Wednesday.

In the light of the accusation, the school authorities temporarily suspended him.

The student’s family members said that the girl was harassed at the birthday celebration of another teacher, Porimal Biswas. Porimal cut the cake and left; then, Miraj force-fed cake to the female students and took selfies with them. He allegedly sexually harassed the female student at the celebratory event.

The student’s parents disclosed the matter to the school authorities, but the school did not take any action. The next day they [the family] filed a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the school headmaster on April 28.
