Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would lay the foundation stone for India’s first national defence university next month, with final decks cleared for its opening during a meeting chaired by Defence Minister A K Antony here on Friday.

The Indian National Defence University (INDU) would be a fully autonomous institution, located on a 200-acre plot at Binola near Gurgoan in the national capital region of Haryana.

“Decks have now been cleared for the foundation stone laying of the Indian National Defence University. The final touches to the plan were given at a meeting presided over by the Defence Minister,” according to Defence Ministry officials.

“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to lay the foundation stone in the last week of May,” they said.

“The university is being planned on the lines of IITs and IIMs,” the officials said.

The university would have a mandate to provide knowledge-based higher education for management of defence of the country, keeping its participants abreast with emerging security challenges through scholarly research and training.

“The INDU will be a unique institution of national importance,” the officials said.

An expenditure of `295 crore would be incurred by the government for setting up the university and another `162 crore for land acquisition, which is almost done now. It is estimated to take about seven years from foundation stone laying for the INDU to become functional.

Binola was chosen owing to its proximity to the national capital and land availability. The INDU, approved by the Union Cabinet in May 2010, would cater to a large number of international officials and students as well as India’s security leaders, civilians and defence officials for courses and training.

India

And here is the stupidity correlation of ones action..... The stupid react the same way:

Naxalites set up own military school in Dandakaranya

NEW DELHI: The CPI (Maoist) has formed its own elite training 'institute' in the Dandakaranya forests, a Naxalite bastion, to transform tribal cadres into Communist professionals equipped to handle tasks related to the Central Committee, the outfit's apex decision-making body.

The Buniyadi Communist Training School (BCTS), a brainchild of CPI (Maoist) top gun Ganapathy, has been churning out professionally-trained Communists since 2009 with basic military skills and knowledge of Hindi, social studies, mathematics and science.

A country like India should have this, especialy left from the english maybe?

Didn't Pune University served as a military University for Indian Armed Forces, as there are many courses on Weapon systems and such, where only graduates from NDA are admitted, not GATE qualified civilians like me.

Well now Pakistan has to figure out how to counter this action by India. So, should we wait for months or days before the media starts printing the correlation....

Thanks..

We already have NDU established ages ago..

No, they joined based on only visiting Scholars........

So we are going to have all the other institutes under one entity or the others will be independent?
Anyways, glad to know about the news. High time we had a " Westpoint "

Congrats to the Pakistanis on having your NDU since 1963

Now don't say that while I congratulate you guys, I don't mean it. I bloody well mean it !!!

Is INDU going to be military exclusive? Will they allow civilian students, scholars or researchers?

Whats the difference between the NDU and the NDA or the IMA?
